I’m just coming back to the game, got my DK to 60 last night. I notice the auction house isn’t much help. Whats the best way to start getting level 60 gear?

Run your covenant quest lines. They actually can award decent gear.

Start Zerith mortis questline will give you some gear and a 265 belt → world boss → LFR → M+
Farm your legendary for a 291 piece
Timewalking and heroics give 210 gear.
Start the campaign in zerith mortis (ZM). The cypher gear that drops around the zone is 233 and the rare mob drops are 236. As you unlock the features in the zone and do more research, cypher gear increases in Ilvl to 252 cap. At the end of the campaign you get flying and a 265 Ilvl belt that gives you your covenants legendary effect.
Mythic dungeon 0s drop 236 gear that you can level over time.
LFR drops 236 for the first bosses and 246ish for the last several bosses.
ZM has a world boss you can do once a week in the top left corner (purple icon for world quest) that has a low chance to drop 265 gear.
Try and fill out your great vault rewards (vault is in Orion’s, has a lock icon) for rewards once a week. You only get one reward, but doing more activities gives more options. It resets every Tuesday.
You can wear one piece of crafted gear, there are a couple good 262 options that are <50k now. Ring is good one to buy since having two slots means you’ll keep it around longer.
Focus on creating your legendary, wowhead has a good guides on what is optimal for your class and spec, guides on torghast, etc.
You can buy an item in oribos by the flight master that gives you conduits up to 200 (I think?) and another in ZM that gives you conduits up to 226/239 based on rep. These are worth unlocking, conduits offer lots of throughput.
Pvp honor gear is 242 Ilvl when 7/7 I think, and scales up in pvp. It’s worth unlocking a couple hard to get slots (like weapons).
Generally m+ is going to be the best gear farm once you’re established. It’s also the easiest route to leveling gear imho. I find pvp to be harder to hit higher Ilvl from.
There is also a weekly quest next to the great vault that will give you normal or heroic raid rewards for doing dungeons. They each pop once a month (4 quests that rotate).
Lastly, they’re is a pvp quest from the pvp vendor area in oribos to get one of the new trinkets. It’s worth doing this for good base stats and some items like the resonator are fine in pve for a bit.

Get anima, buy the gear in Zereth Mortis and that will get you into just about everything.
5 Timewalking dungeons for an item as well that should be what… 252? ilvl from the quest. If you have badges head over to Shatt to see what you can pick up from the vendor there.
Anima is thrown at you so the stuff in Haven in Zereth Mortis will be the the best gear for the time invested.
