I have been thinking about playing HC since Retail is going to sh1t, and saw a post recently about Death DCs and deaths that should be counted being reversed, was there any truth to this? I just read the title and I assumed that is what the post was about? It might have just been them re-affirming their stance on DC deaths not being reversed. Does anyone have the copy/pasta/sauce on what it was? Are you still screwed if you die from a poopy mechanic like DC death?
Some people believe that if they DC their character death shouldn’t count. There is no truth to this.
There has never been a death overturned on the official HC server, and there has been no change in the stance. Additionally, if you think you would ever need/want a death reversed no matter how you die even if by DC, you simply should not be playing HC as ultimately it will not be the right place for you. I know a lot of people that simply grow way too attached to their characters, or would see a death as having been “a waste of their time”, HC simply isn’t for them.
While the policy in some ways maybe seems unfair to people, its what HC is, a single death, and here is the point that many of them fail to realize as they ignore the warning they see atsignup just like many ignored the new PvP warning. HC isn’t fair, and it’s not supposed to be, the whole point of HC is to kill characters in anyway possible, so then those people restart the journey anew.
Perhaps HC is right for you, perhaps not, there is no correct answer here, but if you’re bored of the normal game and want to give it a shot, go for it. Additionally, if after you die or at anytime, you realize its not for you, you can always just free transfer your character to any ERA server assuming your playing on Defias or Skull Rock, or if you choose the Fresh server, you can goto the Fresh PvE server.
I can confidently say that they will not overturn DC deaths. The main reason is that the default will be, if you char gets in trouble, you just hit a kill switch and DC yourself. Also, trying to ascertain if the DC was as a result of Blizzard, or your internet provider. And I am sure Blizzard does not want to get into taking responsibility for an internet provider’s DC. Then they open pandora’s box. Computer update? Addon causing crash? Power Outage? How do they differentiate between an intentional DC and one that is out of the player’s control? And I doubt there is any way that they can justify hiring employees to review HC deaths to see if they are a DC out of the player’s control vs intentional.
People also fail to realize, hardcore is not the same thing as “hard mode”.
