Dear whoever's in charge of lore at Blizzard

explain to me how it’s possible Anduin Wrynn, King of Stormwind and Thrall, the greatest Warchief the Horde ever had are BOTH unaware that Azeroth (the planet) is just a Titan egg for an as yet unborn Titan named Azeroth. I mean… that’s some pretty relevant information that Khadgar, Turalyon or even Magni would have shared, at some point since that revelation was made, isn’t it?

How would they know to ask?

At least up till the point where the subject matter experts themselves are experiencing the same phenomenon ,as it seems to be implied there’s a bit of a ramp up, as the “visions are getting worse” meaning that they started small.

gossip. people talk about things. the leaders of nations have intelligence gathering organizations. the “heroes of Azeroth” (players) getting drunk at the local inn and blabbing that they just got back from Silithus where Sargeras tried to murder Azeroth with a giant sword before you, with the help of Aman-thul the highfather, leader of the pantheon of Titans, destroyed him and put an end to the Burning Legion, once and for all.

stories get told about great deeds, and a giant sword sticking out of a planet would garner a little bit of curiosity, wouldn’t it?

Just because you know that the planet is alive and is a Titan egg doesn’t mean you know the voices coming from inside the earth ARE said planet’s voices.

As far as everyone knows, hearing the planet is strictly a Magni thing, that’s why he’s the Speaker, he speaks for the planet like a blue Dwarven Lorax.

If everyone believed that Magni is the only person who hears Azeroth, why would they assume that the voice they are hearing is also Azeroth? It’s not like Warcraft is a stranger to entities who shove voices into people’s heads.

And while we reasonably assume that Sargeras intended to kill Azeroth, we never had anyone outright tell us this. Even in-universe, it would just be a theory, it’s not like we went back to the Seat of the Pantheon and asked an imprisoned Sargeras “hey, so why’d you stab the planet?”.

They seem to be walking back the idea Azeroth is a Titan. That aside, I think it is important to consider it from within the world. Anduin has heard the void speak to him before, Thrall has heard the elements. Why would they presume the world soul is talking to them? The world soul has never talked to anyone before, directly. Not even Magni, as she always communicated with him through imagery and emotions.

You are assuming that they should know that some random voice is Azeroth. There is a thing called dramatic irony. WE, the audience know that it is Azeroth. The only other person who knows it is Azeroth is Magni. The rest have no idea what she sounds like because she only spoke to Magni in Legion and BFA.

the third expansion in the Worldsoul Saga is called The Last Titan, which is Azeroth. She will be the last Titan born into creation, which is why its so vitally important that she be kept uncorrupted by the Old Gods. this is their last chance to corrupt a Titan after you, one of the Heroes of Azeroth killed Argus the Unmaker… again with the help of Aman-thul and the pantheon of Titans…

this has been the entire driver of the story since WoD. walking it back would be impossible at this point. protecting Azeroth from the Old Gods is the whole reason the constructs exist, how the mortal races came to be…

how could they possibly walk this back?

Well, one of the theories out there is that Azeroth is some other creature, and maybe the Titans want to make her one of them. Same as the Old Gods want her.

Like Azeroth might be some sort of other creature that can become what ever it is turned into. Maybe we are to keep her from any manipulation. We don’t have all the information.

Maybe her being a Titan is a lie that we have to solve the truth about? There are ways to walk it back.

It makes little sense for either of them not to know. Especially Anduin, since Magni talks so much about Azeroth being a Titan yet to awaken and worked closely with Anduin for years after he came back as the diamond speaker (closely enough that he could talk Anduin into accepting Wrathion’s help in BfA and Anduin knew what Azerite was).

It’s still speculation, but as per the new lore, Azeroth likely isn’t a Titan, or at least isn’t a Titan yet. The recent blessing cinematic (“This is not the Titans’ magic, this is of our world”) and the fact that The Last Titan will reportedly reveal the “true nature of Azeroth” further hint at this.

World Souls were referred in the lore previously as nascent titans, meaning that they could mature and be cultivated into titanhood, not that they necessarily would automatically.

This is the Titans’ whole schtick- they scan the cosmos for future potential titans and raise them up to join them (doing so destroys said planet, and the Titan’s perspective doesn’t particularly value things as small as us).

Voidlords and the Old Gods are up to the same but corrupt world souls to Dark Titans which are the metaphysical opposites of the Titans.

Sageras was trying to break the cycle and kill all world souls to avoid Dark Titans as an extreme measure. He rebelled against the Titans because he saw the cycle as not worth the risk and would rather scorched earth (universe?) the whole thing instead.

I expect we’re going to encounter Azeroth as a sentient being and look for another, different way to break the titan cycle in her own way, with the current Titan Patheon opposing those efforts. That encounter with Azeroth is War Within’s main plot advancement.

We’ll fight the Dark Titan forces in Midnight and Titan forces in The Last Titan.

But how do I know this? Raid cutscenes and quest dialogue across many expansions.
Content that Anduin and Thrall were present for.
Why don’t they know?
No clue. I guess us being silent protagonists has a downside.
