There is nothing that specifically comments on the “necro” but you can tell no one reads it or enforces it because of
Cross Linking Threads
This category includes:
Linking to threads from other forums
Creating threads with the sole purpose of linking another post
I think of it every time someone just links to reddit with no new original thought on the topic.
As for the specific part of commenting on old topics, it’s usually just frowned upon because patches or changes may have made the information no longer applicable.
Edit: wow tired can’t even paste the right part of the CoC or spell properly.
It’s not. Also even if a post is old doesn’t not mean it is any less true. Sadly there is some clowns out there that think that this kind of action should be a thing.
Help us all if they think that way irl not just for a game.
I think 6 months to a year is more reasonable, as long as it’s easy to link to a relevant post. When someone tries to do that there should be a popup suggesting they link to the post only if it’s relevant. A lot of necros are by people who got some sort of inspiration about a current problem that actually has nothing to do with that old thread.
There is nothing to stop anyone making a new post, and even linking to an old one. If it is closed within a short period of time it stops people repeatedly pulling up old posts because if you leave it at 6 months, and someone posts a comment at 5.9 months, then again its open for another 6 months.

Oh goodness that was hours ago and I’m still sitting here on Discord with other GD peoples talking about double fisting pickles from the fridge in my undies. What a day, ya’all.
How long do post stay on the front few pages after posting? Most of them disappear from view very fast, unless they are popular mega-type posts, and if they are popular and keep getting relevant input, they will stay open.
So I dont really get your point. As I say, you can always make a new post with up to date info and link closed ones if needed. But anyhow, since other forums do it on a one or two month basis, Id still be happy to go with that personally.
yeah it really depends. i can see the “no necros” rule being useful for threads that no longer apply – questions about broken things that were hotfixed 3 years ago being bumped by somebody with an unrelated issue, or whatever. but it’s stupid to describe somebody posting in a “we want gnome DHs” thread from 3 days ago to say “yeah, i want them too” as necroing a thread. that post is much better than a brand new thread to say the same thing.
