Dear Blizzard! Empty Zones?

Isn’t ‘World’ of Warcraft supposed to be alive and vibrant online world full of players? We went back to the Shadowlands and Dragonflight and Even Dornogal, there is NO ONE there! Hmm. maybe Blizzard should trim out all the old content as soon as they are no longer current so to avoid giving the player the impression that it’s a large, empty and useless world.

We are currently on a pilgrimage going through all the expansion hub cities. Let’s see how many people we will bump into tonight. Hopefully we will see more than 3 players.

Numbers of players are finite. Number of zones grow with every patch. Of course there will be empty zones.

Reminds me of the NPCs running through the portal rooms to “pretend” that WoW’s still populated and not in a slowly depleting bubble at all.

Do you want bots/NPCs filling out the world instead?

Because that’s what you’re gonna get.

Old stuff just isn’t gonna be relevant, because those playing have already done it anyways.

But that also means the Game Design Issues since the majority of the players are interested in the recent content and the rest of the game is boring to them

Eventually, AI is going to get so good that there will be bots in most guilds and no one will even know.

It’s Spring!

People want to go out and touch grass.

Mines still wet going to need a few more days to dry up, but it’s nice to enjoy the great outdoors.

Ya, players are bored by content they have done before. Shocking.

It’s a nonissue really. In real life they update places to draw crowds. In the virtual world, there is no point in doing that since space is infinite - why rebuilding an existing area when you can just build a new one.

Population varies from realm/server to realm/server. I’ve seen a fair amount of traffic in those areas.

What they should do is, make all the older zones, merged into every single realm… that way you will see people leveling and it will look healthier.

Exactly. I’m not sure why the Blizz fan club here can’t get their heads wrapped around this.

That’d be absolutely awful. One of the benefits of playing smaller servers is that you can get empty/mostly empty zones to go play around in. Funneling every server together in the old zones would ruin that entirely.

My theory is they are eventually going to release expansions with only the new zones included, and access to older expansions only through instanced content that serves the purpose of the current storyline. They don’t want people spread out in ten old expansions. I think a radical change is coming in the next couple of years.

Hey, I sent this character back today to do some old content. Maybe you’ll see him, he’s still there, in the WoD garrison.

Oh wait…

I like making alts on low-pop realms to camp rares, lol.

Wouldn’t be able to do that anymore if they did merges.

I’d understand, though.

I think having a sustained population is more important.

At the same time though, there’s those that prefer to be either alone or more spaced out.

Crowded servers aren’t appealing to everyone.

Yep. See anniversary.

apparently, I crashed a southshore region party last night as I never got an invite. I felt like leveling the NE hunter there for a switch.

Kill 10 of these!

okay… known area 1, packed. Known area 2 packed. I had to walk long and far for a quiet spot.

Inb4 group up comments. that needs people to take the invite lol.

Also for the bored there is anniv black lotus drama to catch up on. entertaining reads to be found there. Load up layers, see rare flowers picked.

No.

Where do you think role-players, questers, levelers, collectors, ect play?

I am currently playing with characters in Draenor, Broken Isles and Dragon Isle and run across folks all the time.

Are there a lot?

No.

But there are certainly enough to make the World feel lived in.

And there are certainly enough to keep stealing my herbs!

Yeah, Saurfang’s a pretty dead server. Sub 4k active characters is rough.
