Dealing with Bad luck

Let me preface this by saying I know you typically remember getting bad luck/losses more than your good luck/wins.

The entirety of 2023 I haven’t gotten a single rare drop despite weekly attempts on multiple toons (including, but not limited to: mythic/heroic garrosh for shoulders, normal/heroic firelands for both mounts, mythic Jaina, all three dragonriding skins that drop off the last boss of the respective raids, love rocket on dozens of toons, Sylvanas’ bow ((The ONE time it DOES drop a level 60 hunter that died in P2 outrolled me for)) and a myriad of other mount drops). Not a single dopamine rush or instance of getting lucky.

I’ve reasoned 2023 just wasn’t my year, but now that we’re into the second week of 2024 going the exact same way I’ve just started to think: maybe I should just stop. This just isn’t fun anymore. I understand variance, but I feel like I’ve got reverse lottery luck with this game.

I feel like we should get a [Token of Misfortune] every time we kill a boss. After you’ve gathered 100 of them, you should just be able to buy the item that eluded you for so long.

Thoughts? Any tips for dealing with a long bout of crappy luck? A break?

EDIT: This game honestly sucks, so I’m just going to unsub. I’m glad the playerbase echoes my opinions. Blizzard has fallen.

Some people farm specific drops and go without seeing them for YEARS. Not much you can do about that except soldier on.

And if it’s no longer fun, then STOP DOING IT. This is a game and not a form of cruel and unusual punishment.

Good point. I think I’ll unsub. Might just need to break that streak with playing another game, honestly. This game sucks so it’s no hair off my back.

I can agree. But I think you are over exaggerating your attempts.

Huolon has never dropped for me. I’ve watched friends get that mount three times but never for me. I used to camp him once a week since Timeless Isle came out. I stopped a while back.

And the Love Rocket? I didn’t care about it. Never have. But that dropped for me. I was only there to help out a friend, not try for the mount. I felt bad because I couldn’t trade it and she was the one who really wanted it.

At this point, I just don’t try anymore. I won’t get sucked into their 1% droprate obsession. And they keep doing it.

The items I do have that are rare aren’t because I farmed them. They’re because I got lucky while trying to help friends.

I have done all those things for the entirety of 2023 on multiple toons without missing a week and have nothing to show for it.

I haven’t gotten a single mount drop that is a % drop in 2023.

If I was dealing with some serious bad luck, that IS I gave a damn about it, I would roll multiple alts to max level and attempt the roll multiple times.

That’s how I got my Pureblood Firehawk. That damn thing has a drop rate of what, below 3%?

Nope. NEXT ALT! YOUR TURN!

Also, it’s about persistence and what you actually want. I’ve learned that tons of individuals yearn for an item with a low drop rate, complain they’re not getting it… only to find out they don’t even use it anymore. Its confusing.

Then it’s just a matter of persistence. Mounts just don’t fall out of the sky.

Did you know you can kill him every time he spawns for a chance at the mount? I haven’t had any luck either with him. Last time I farmed him for hours a couple years or so ago and no dice. Haven’t been back much since.

Regarding mounts and other stuff with weekly lockouts, taking a break is good.
But another way is to just create more toons. (means more chances)
By “multiple toons”, how many toons are you using every week to farm the things you want?

I have 10+ toons maxed out (to be able to farm recent expansions).
Some people have 50+ lol

Yeah, but I could never bring myself to sit there for like 45 minutes more than once. lol

For Tusks of Mannoroth, I have 10 plate wearers.
Most of the legacy mounts drops I have 20+ sat outside the raids.
For the dragonskins. I have several. Some doing heroic/normal farms. Then on some alts I’ll try my luck with LFR.
For Love Rocket it’s 50 attempts a day during the event.
