Deaf Friendly?

Hey guys!
This is not a troll post or something.I’m just wondering about this thing.
So i have a friend , he is deaf ( lost his hearing in an accident ) the thing is he loves to play LoL and hes pretty good at it. He tried to join few teams so he can play competitive(tournaments etc.) but all of them asked for a mic and to be able to communicate, since he is deaf he cant do that and no team wants him. or they say you dont need to talk , you just need to listen ( which is the worst thing you can say to deaf person >.<! )
I saw many posts about guilds recruiting members and a lot of them has req. to be able to talk when needed.
So my question is , is it possible for a deaf person to somehow raid in WoW without being able to communicate? and is there any serious PvE guild recruiting that doesnt req. voice communication?
i’m so sorry if i offended someone with this post.
Please share your opinion^^ Thank you! GL & HF in WoW Classic <3

i’m not asking for a guild invite or something. I just asked if its possible for a deaf person to go to high raiding guild without be being able to communicate.

probably leaders wont agree with that since its kinda slow. and They have to write tactics in the chat or mid boss fight.

Thank you for your reply <3

I think he’ll have an easier time finding a guild at a later stage of the game, when things are easier.

Otherwise, could look into a voice-to-text overlay he could use to read what people are saying in voice chat.

If he could find a good guild that’s more social with raiding on the side, rather than hard-core raiders, he’d probably have better luck being able to join their raids and be able to communicate through text. Raiding with a hard core group is pretty impossible unless you’re all talking & listening to each other and in my experience they aren’t very forgiving toward people who aren’t able to “keep up” so to speak.
A group of friends raiding to have a good time is usually more apt to help a buddy out by typing what the leader is saying in Discord and letting them type back.

I’m not sure if they are playing Classic, but there’s a guild called Swords for Everyone that he might want to check out. It’s primarily for people with anxiety and mental health issues, but I’m sure if they are playing Classic they’d welcome him.

I also checked their website and while it said they do require voice chat for some events, they have Text to Speech via their Discord.

:open_mouth: that’s a good idea, i didnt thought about that! Thank you <3

Yeah i will stay by his side during whole time. I just wanted him to fit into a competitive environment ( since back in the days he played cs and wow competitive and hes of this hardcore style players )

I guess we have to start with that first ^^ Thank you so much

i will search a little more information about this guild  and since they already have website is gonna be way easier  Thank you so much <3

Thank you so much ^^ GL & HF to you too

In the guild I was in during The Burning Crusade we had 2 deaf members in a server first progression guild. One of them was a very good rogue and the other one of our better healers. Their deafness did occasionally cause communication issues - especially following raid leader orders quickly - but they each had a nominated person who messaged them or who they were assigned to follow as necessary - and an organised shorthand was developed over time. It required some patience sometimes and no antsy impatient guild members.

If it does exist, I imagine he could cut down on clutter by muting everyone in Discord except for the raid leader, and people appointed to call out things.

I would say the best advice I could give him would be just to know all his mechanics and be a very good player. At that point you don’t even really need voice besides maybe for odd things such as looting but I’m sure there are some guild masters out there that would accommodate him as long as he let them know. I would also like to add playing a tank or something of that sort may not be a good idea as usually their communication is a good factor.

I for one would welcome a deaf person, it’s not hard to be considerate of anyone’s RL constraints, it should be no different for the deaf. I would expect there are other wise guild leaders out there with a similar view.

Have you decided on a realm yet ? that info would help people make a connection before he even starts.

Sure but does it have to be a high end raiding guild? the competetion there is big already, like 100 man fighting for a raid spot.

I’m sure he will be able to find a guild that is willing to accommodate what he’s looking for tbh. I used to do arenas with a deaf druid, we got to 2k+ in 3s easily with minimal communication, and just using awareness. It was one of the best and easiest times I’ve ever had in arenas, not only because he was a great player but just because there wasn’t the normal screaming and frustration that comes from being in voice.

I honestly don’t see why there would be a reason a guild wouldn’t be willing to work with him if he’s a good and aware player. You don’t need to be a talkative discord socialite to be successful and to have a person type out the plan of action to you.

Thats the biggest thing im worrying about , they are a lot of impatient players nowadays :x

i will do a research for that , Thank you <3

Hes playing a healer ^^ Tanking and DPS is blah! for him lol , Thank you for your reply <3

You are awesome , i wish every1 to be like that :3

Yes , we will play on Atiesh ( US )

He loves competttion , but i guess we will start with more casual guild so we can get into the game

Thats so true , screaming and offending somebody with that never works. So bad people dont realise it. and yes he was actually pretty good player , back in WoTLK we managed to achieve really high rating  ( he was my 2s part. disc priest / rogue ^^ woooooo!!! )

actually same :x but WoW community never stops to amaze me so i guess there will be players againts that. In LoL he is Masters jungle main and no team wants him cuz he cant communicate , even tho he plays perfectly >.<! its just unreal how ignorant some people are. Lets hope WoW Classic community is different c:

Thank you guys for all the replys  tried to answer to all of you , i really appreciate your time and effort. you guys are awesome :3 GL & HF

Unfortunately, i’m on Oceanic, but i’m sure there would be many like minded people who would welcome him.

Yes, there are actually deaf guilds. I suggest finding one.

Unfortunately, many hearing guilds require speech communication as a crutch.

Or he could play like I do, forgetting about content that requires speech/raiding/whatever. I’m not deaf, I’ve just always hated it. The first time I heard mouth breathing nerds, or some wailing brat in the background, that was it for me.

We had colorblind players without colorblind mode. If they are serious about raiding the best start would be to tell the truth. Let the GM know and almost anyone would make accommodations. I used google translate to relay messages back in forth during raids for players that didn’t speak English before.

There are ways to get around certain aspects. Just be there for your friend to relay messages and have a backup for nights you are not able to show up. The raid leader will understand and know to give adequate time for a quick message to them if one is needed.
