What do I need to know before joining a group? This is my first time playing Classic/Vanilla.
Listen to the tank, don’t be a ninja. The rest should come easy.
Crowd control is your friend. Turn on target of target in your interface and attack the same thing as the tank. Give the tank a few seconds to generate threat. Bring food and bandages
Try to be level 18 first.
When it comes to quests, they are a number of quests to do for it. There are a few in Stormwind(a few of them involve killing NPCs in the mine, but outside the instance, and to collect some item). Some groups may skip these in the mine, but outside the instance quests. There is also a quest atop the Sentinel Hill tower in Westfall, for bandanas(or something along those lines). There is also another quest in Sentinel Hill at the tower from the main guy standing in front of the tower door, involving the Defias Brotherhood. The chain sends you to Stormwind or something first, maybe Lakeshire, you have to run to a few areas it sends you to, then you get a quest to kill the last boss, Van Cleef, for some nice rewards, like a good leather chest-piece.
As for tactics for joining a group, make sure you don’t pull for the tank, and don’t wander off. Make sure your group kills the elite NPCs that spawn behind you guys(have to run back a little), after kill each boss. Be aware of nearby enemies, especially near the boat, since it’s easy to aggro some, more so the ones atop of the boat stairways. Make sure you’re attacking the same target as the tank.
Some other things -
- Make sure you avoid the AOE(area of effect) of the Defias mages in the instance. They cast a fire spell, don’t stand in it. It makes the ground red where it currently is, ensure you have projected textures on in your video settings.
- When it comes to the goblins, make sure you kill the engineers(or whatever they’re called) first, when you get to the forge. They spawn little bots that need to be killed.
- On the last boss fight, the two additional elites with him need to be killed first before you kill the boss.
- Be aware of the stats that your class needs, so that you roll appropriately on gear.
- If you notice a NPC on your healer, try to kill it if you can, if the tank isn’t noticing.
yeah… nah…

I’ll be sure to grab those quests ahead of time.
Are there any rogue specific things I need to know?
it’s the same as every dungeon in all of WoW. Kill adds, unless the plan is to ignore them, interrupt casts, and kill.
Most any dungeon instance you can follow the same etiquette. Be as geared as you can be, make sure you understand what the tank wants to do. If he wants to pull and set the pace, respect it. If he sets markers, make sure you know the kill order.
Try to download the instance in your head so next run through you will know routes and what bosses do.
Don’t need stuff that looks like an upgrade to you but is a better item for someone else. IE a dagger with better stats but a rogue is in your group. Let the rogue have the dagger etc.
Be nice, get invited back by people because you’re fun to be around. Gl
Don’t run head or jump around in combat aggroing adds.
