Deadly Duo just got recently reworked so that every bite you buff up KC to do more damage and increase it’s chance to reset stacking up to 3. Additionally, KC resets extend the duration of Spearhead by 1.5 seconds. This is really cool on paper and I love the promoted interplay between the abilities but in execution it still is pretty bad.
It feels very strange that we’re incentivized to not press Flanking Strike (essentially big boy KC) during this window. It generates more focus and does much more damage but we shouldn’t use it because it doesn’t increase the duration of Spearhead. This problem isn’t only isolated to deadly duo, every KC reset style talent is extremely awkward since it incentivizes this avoiding flanking strike playstyle. An easy fix to this would be to make every talent that interacts with KC resets to also activate on use of flanking strike so we can actually use it without losing anything.
Additionally, the 1.5 second increase to the duration of Spearhead on kc resets is not nearly enough of an increase to even notice it. It really needs to be 2-3 seconds for it to be even noticeable. It differs from the old birds of prey azerite trait/talent because we are not primarily using KC during this window, we’re using MB. If the duration increase was 2.5 or even 3 seconds this talent could get some real use and have some cool gameplay interactions while invoking that old Birds of Prey playstyle.
PS: Making Flanking Strike more interesting in single target through not only the changes above but also making its cooldown reduced with mongoose bite, and maybe even have it scale with mongoose fury buff with a talent ty ty : ).
