What dead or dying MMO games would you have liked to see make it big and stay within the top 10 mmo games to play? Are there any systems you would like wow to copy from said game?
For me it would be Warhammer Online, I love all things Warhammer, greenskins are the best, as for copying something wow isnt pvp focused enough but keep battles would be cool.
Wildstar was a blast, leveling felt so good, the problem is they hyper monitized it and pushed WAAAAY to hard for the E-Sports stuff and killed the game, then the devs nuked all server code so fans couldn’t host private servers and such when they turned off the official servers.
Pvp system in Lineage 2 was great. Olympics, sieges and just random world pvp was so much better than in WoW. NCSoft was ahead of its time with freemium game model tho
The big problem is, it tried to start with the 15/mo thing, that didn’t work so it went free to play with a cash shop and a ‘premium sub’ that was CONSTANTLY shoved in your face, and cash shop things for housing granted player power/resources you couldn’t otherwise get (harvesting nodes/node cap increases/more area to build and do stuff in/etc) which is kinda how it died. Not just one thing but the constant misteps in monitization.
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Could have been such a great game, and was in it’s own inimitable way. Only MMO I’ve ever played without P2W mechanics (other than UO) where you could be a pure crafter and actually advance your character, and I loved how all of us crafters needed to work together to make truly great things. And the diplomacy system! Also the only MMO I’ve ever played where you could be a full-time diplomat and could affect entire regions by your actions. Also had a really awesome class system, and I loved their take on gnomes.
Also miss Wildstar greatly. Amazing housing system, loved the two factions (Dominion all the way, mechari and chua represent!) and I really miss my chua who looked like Che Guevara. Yes, his name was Chua Guevara. Yes, this was allowed.
CoX (City of Heroes/Villains). Loved that game and the character creator. I won so, SO many costume contests. I was a bit of a legend on my server and was even interviewed by in-game content creators.
I really miss SWG before the killer patch. I was the first ranger on my server, and one of the only mon cal players, period. I made my own chat channel to tutor new scouts who wanted to become rangers, and I personally led the first explorers to land on all of the most dangerous planets in the galaxy, because I was literally the only ranger on the whole server for months, and only I had the terrain transversal and survival skills needed to help a group survive in those places (like Dathomir).
Everquest though for me, up through the Planes of Power expansion was the most fun, engaging and enjoyable time gaming in my life. From the immersion to the community in that game at the time, it was my favorite. The game just got dated. Then the sequel didnt pan out. Then Everquest Next was canceled.
I really wish Everquest was remade, with combat and mechanics little closer to the speed of WoW, and just with a nice graphics overhaul. I just miss the size of that world and most of all the server community. For those that didnt play at the time only Vanilla and TBC server community felt anything close to similar. Everquest was a lot more friendly though.
