Seems like even if it was sharding, the guild and channel chats, along with the communities would be active and chatty, but in my guild and communities, all are totally DEAD. I can say something, but there is no one who responds. It’s really sad.

My server is pretty chatty and it’s high pop, not full.
And the truly sad part of that is, you no longer need to be subbed to post.
So it’s not that people CAN’T post, they don’t want to even bother with that.
Leveled my unholy Dk from 113 to max today, I saw in total maybe a dozen folks.
And it was the same people at every quest hub, so I did a /who and sure enough, it came back 19 people from 110-119 in the zone.
When I’m on Proudmoore there are people everywhere. Sometimes it’s too crowded in certain areas. When I’m on Argent Dawn just about everywhere is a ghost town. Which can be nice sometimes too.
It’s definitely quiet now. Thinking of making a fresh alliance monk, maybe a VE.
I have noticed this on my server. Takes forever to get a group together for world bosses now unless I do them on Tuesdays. Doing it at peak times helps though. Alliance on Proudmoore.

Every time I get on Red Dead Redemption Two, on my XBOX ONE, it is a pretty lively place. I meet all kinds of people.

The story is great
TL;DR: I have no reason to log in.
Mythic raiding can’t be done without 20 people and we are barely ever lucky enough to get enough people for Taloc after pugging people, but haven’t seen anyone do more than Mythic Mother. My guild pretty much clears Heroic Uldir at this point on the first night, and then there isn’t anything to do on night 2 after we one shot M Taloc. I’ve considered moving to a guild that is pushing Mythic but that seems a bit drastic, especially since I am one of the raid tanks for my guild, and I like them.
Mythic 10’s are too punishing for too minimal reward. Yeah, I can tank them fine - but it often takes like an hour for a measly piece of 370 loot. For a while I was doing 10’s just for the weekly cache but I only got 3 good pieces in something like 11 weeks or whatever. Three of them were gloves. Anything lower than a 10 isn’t worth my time at all.
I don’t really care to get into ranked PvP because it’s too repetitive for me, and the systems seem to change every expac. I’m not saying I’m a great PvPer and there is no challenge, just that it just feels too predictable. PvE mechanics that change depending on the encounter and difficulty are just more fun for me than “Watch their CD’s, interrupt the heal, kite this guy, stun that guy”. It’s fun when you run into people in WPvP and it’s imbalanced either way (I love being outnumbered as a Blood DK), or you are trying to complete an objective while PvPing, but rigorous pillar hugging is just annoying. I also feel like the PvP rewards are too elite for me to spend time trying to seriously attain them. I’d love a Glad mount but there is almost assuredly going to be better players with greater dedication going for them, so naw. Not going to bother.
I don’t do World Quests anymore. There’s no reward. I am exalted with every BFA faction, so the commendations and even contracts are useless. I don’t need any of the gear, even the 370s. I don’t need the pittance of gold (not worth the time). I don’t even need the war resources because I don’t have anything to spend them on. There is nothing the table has that I need either.
I can’t do anything with Blacksmithing because I need an obscene amount of Expulsom. I thought getting 250 Sanguicell was going to be what took a long time, but I’ve already crafted the 385 legs and still have some 350+ Sanguicell. And to get that first 385, I had to reach across every alt I’d leveled for BoE’s, make a leatherworker just to have gear to break, and STILL had to spend thousands in the AH on BoE’s. I average about 2 Expulsom per 30 items. Sorry but farming hundreds of BoEs is not fun, or worth it IMO. My tailoring seems equally useless. In fact I feel like that profession is a legit joke for the Devs, so much so that they made the “Bloodtotem Saddle Blanket” last expac just to make sure we know it. I took it for the spellthread and bags several expacs ago, and I don’t even remember the last time spellthread was a thing. I considered dropping it to pick up Alchemy for the Expulsom transmutes (I already have an alchemist), but as soon as I got the 385 belt my BS would become pointless again (maybe why they decided to make it so difficult to craft the two 385s). Having Alchemy or Tailoring are sort of equally pointless for me. The flask bonus is a benefit I guess, but still. I don’t need it for gold making.
I don’t do the Pokemon game. If I wanted to do that, I’d play Pokemon. At least most of the WQ’s scale now so I don’t feel like Pet Tamers have an advantage, but still - there’s no WQ I need. Honestly, even with the Paragon system coming I won’t farm rep - because I learned in Legion that the rewards are nearly impossible to get.
Lastly, I hate not having flight. The zones are much more manageable, but places like Vol’Dun are still aggravating. Every time I see an objective mob being killed up a hill that I can’t reach, and I have to spend 5 mins running in circles only to roll up on it dead, I remember how much I hate No Flight.
If I log in it’s to level alts. I even went and unlocked Dark Irons even though I don’t intend to play Alliance. Alts at least feel like there is a sense of progress. My sub is going to lapse soon and I don’t know that I will renew until flight is back. I know 8.1 is coming in a few weeks but still, the only exciting part for me is the new races. The new raid seems cool but I’m sure I will run into the same problem I’m already having with Mythic before long.

Yup same here weekend was not busy on Saurfang that I saw, but honestly I gave up, I found rimworld just sitting there needing someone to play it, and Im having a ball. Here is a game (also Id add Breviks new game as well) that proves K.I.S.S works even with games, for those not familiar with it, Keep It Simple Stupid.

Most of the guilds I’ve joined in Legion have either disbanded or stopped raiding altogether. So yeah, it’s pretty much a dead game for me

Yet since you are reposting your own post it does seem a bit like a conspiracy thing.
At the moment I checked and counted the following on Premade:
Premade Custom: 43 groups
Premade Legacy Raids: 19 groups
Premade BfA Raids: 30 groups
Seems far from dead to me. As for things advertised in Trade - this isn’t Wrath. People don’t advertise in Trade for groups anymore, not with queueable content and Premade. Trade is for nonsense conversation and to actually offer things for sale.

GD is the canary in the coal mine for wow.
If people stop caring to even troll or flame post, then they’ve stopped caring entirely. Most of the rage posts come from a place of passion. And the ones we’ve had lately feel really disconnected and tired.
But clearly we aren’t approaching it from the right angle and Ion will come to tell us how to have fun in 8.1 and reverse this decay.
