DDoS'ing A Game

I don’t get it, outside of being salty what’s the purpose? What kind of gain would someone get? It would make sense for certain institutions, but a game?

To anger the entire community and gain popularity if they ever come out and admit they did it. I think it’s an ego thing above all else.

some people are just genuinely twisted in the mind, like that serial swatter dude

The e-fame and stroked pe- I mean ego. Even if it’s all negative. He’ll enjoy his 30k fine and 1-3y jailtime though. Just like the previous nobody who thought DDOSing Blizzard was a good idea.

That’s kind of what I was thinking, to do it just because they can. Maybe for practice or testing or something. Doesn’t really seems like “bragging rights” reasons… lol. Shooting fish in a barrel doesn’t make you a marksman… Lol.

It’s easier for me to understand some basement dwelling shut-in DDoSing a game than it is for me to understand why some people want to dismantle environmental regulations IRL. That’s one that blows my mind. I mean, we all breathe the same air and drink the same water at the end of the day.

Some men just want to watch the world burn.

The same reason why humanity went to the moon, made math and calligraphy.

We have a lot of free time in our hands.

Any turd-waffle with dads creditcard can rent a botnet to do a DDOS. that’s the sad part. you don’t need to know how to code or ‘hack’ at all. You just need to know where to get such services.

I think the thought of mortality and not being around to reap the consequences would be a big driver for that kind of behaviour. Either way I agree with that statement. Some people just don’t make sense.

Bolded the relevant part. Activision is nearly on par with EA/Rockstar when it comes to disgusting in-game mechanics and, in fact, started the whole loot box conundrum we find ourselves in. It’s an entirely immoral business practice that preys on those who are pre-disposed to addictive behaviors like gambling. I’m not saying that this person is some sort of vigilante but there are reasons to want to take down Activision games. I, personally, would rather go through lawmakers and, luckily, in various countries across the world that is what is actually happening.

I know some women who’d like to watch the world burn too, and the men along with it.

I always think it’s another games fan boys, classic starts taking players from other games so hardcore fans ddos classic and retail to make it impossible to play

I love that we don’t even know who they are. It’s going to. be like that jock in high school who’s still talking about his killer season at 43 in a bar in the same town he grew up in.

One can assume that most of the people that do these attacks have some kind of mental illness. Anonymity and the very nature of the internet exacerbates some of these mental illnesses. There is no end game here except for feeling “in control” of something big.

My assumption is that they are quite small and irrelevant in their own lives.

DDoSing is a low skill activity that gets you famous.

You have people that want to be known as “hackers”. But they don’t actually know what they are doing. So they turn to DDoSing.

I have limited experience here, but that’s another interesting note. So this just takes basic hacking skills to perform? This makes me feel even stronger about my original reply; they aren’t good at much IRL

Well the issue with lawmakers, especially in the US, is that the vast majority of them have no idea what video games even are.

I mean, that’s the smallest of the issues with the lawmakers in the United States. I’d say that the legalized bribery from lobbyists is an even bigger issue and reason as to why common sense legislation doesn’t get passed. The UK did say that they were going to write laws regarding loot boxes and several countries have outright banned the mechanic.

Right, but what I am saying is that it doesn’t help when these lawmakers don’t even understand that these laws would be common sense. They are told by the companies that nothing wrong is going on and the legislatures believe them.
