When fights are newer, bigwigs seems to update faster and is more accurate.
Normal raider right here & he’s right if that’s all you do.
I didn’t need it in heroic either. I’ve never set foot in mythic, so that might be a different story.
I’m a returning player and that statement was true when I was playing back in Legion (and parts of BFA). I still think it is but I have only currently got Bigwigs installed from my past raiding days as I found DBM a little overwhelming at times.
Sinces I’ve returned and been running some old dungeons I’ve forgotten some mechanics (BigWigs just tells you they are coming but not what to do about them) I am thinking of switching to DBM and trying to tone down some of the alerts (I’ve see a few suggesting that is the best of both worlds).
Personally I actually don’t mind raided/dungeoning without them and merely learning the fights (which is probably why I gravitate towards BW), but when I play with lag sometimes or casually its really handy to get the notification sometimes before it even pops up on screen.

I used to use dbm but swapped to big wigs because it is more customisable. Audio alerts are amazing

Some time back around MoP (?) DBM broke for me… and I didn’t even realize it.
I went something like just over a year before I realized DBM wasn’t even working. I guess years and years of “don’t stand in bad”, “stack on this, run out for that”, and the 2-4 other standard mechanics in WoW will get you through 98% of stuff.
If you’re BRAND NEW to WoW, DBM can help a lot. But once you learn the really, REALLY basic set of mechanics WoW uses, it’s little more than a friendly reminder.
Because the bottom line is, if you’re doing the REALLY REALLY hard content, you better NOT be relying on an addon. lol You have to KNOW THAT STUFF.
i preferred BW strongly when i was mythic raiding. these days i just use DBM and don’t really care.
i think a lot of people are confused about what these addons do. they’re designed to help you learn fights faster. that’s it. once you know the fights you tune the addons out completely without even realizing it. nobody is actually staring at the timers after 100 pulls because they’re helpless without an addon “playing the game” for them.
