Welcome back to Plunderstorm II: Plunder Harder, the sequel very few actually asked for! I’m here today as a devout hater of the first Plunderstorm to give you my thoughts…
The good:
Choosing what area you want to land in. I love it. It takes some of the unpredictability out of it, and also adds an element of strategy for those who like having a choice in the matter. I enjoy being able to focus on a specific area and (hopefully) land successfully.
The Plunderstore. Easily one of the best changes, this lets you actually decide what to buy and when. For those who only want certain items/pets/mounts/transmog, it’s quite satisfying to achieve your goal.
The Plunder:reward ratio. I gotta say, it’s REALLY nice that you get a 1:1 ratio of plunder to store coinage, AND the prices are downright reasonable. I more than achieved my day one goals (pets and mounts).
Overall vibe. I don’t know if it’s first day luck, or something else, but it actually felt a lot more chill when I was out there collecting my gold on the outskirts of the map. I only ran into a few people who thought killing a level 1 30 seconds into the fight was worthwhile…
The bad:
Same old map. It would have been really cool to try this mode in a different map for the sake of variety. As it is, returning players have the advantage and experience of having fought on this map before, which may give them a leg up.
Same old spells for the most part. See above. Returning players know what’s up and I’m not seeing any surprises.
The currency cap. Why the heck is there a cap of 15k plunder? What’s the point of capping it at all? It just seems silly.
Overall: I like the changes and how this allows the PvE players who are primarily here to get their transmogs and rewards to focus on those goals in a timely fashion while the PvP people can focus on the joys of brutally Hunger Gamesing each other. If this pace of plunder acquisition keeps up, I’ll be out of the PvPers’ way in no time.
I like PvP but I’m not sure I’m sold on this style of PvP.
So I’m just a PvE player scurrying around tryingg to grab as many coins as I can before I get my rocked. And rocked, it gets.
I’m more of a live and let live kinda guy. Don’t start none and there won’t be none. There’s always someone looking for a fight though. Usually I lose that fight. I’ve won I think 3 duels tonight. The rest…well, my poor, poor Kul’Tiran will be feeling all of those in the morning.
I even try to run away so they know I’m pathetic and not worth fighting and I swear that just makes them more excited LOL. It’s been rough, some matches I haven’t even broken 100 plunder. Others though I’m sneaking around up to 1k at a time laying low. At least the items are pretty easy to get! I tried duos thinking it would be easier to get more plunder but most of my team mates have been bitterly slow / afk / not grabbing ANYTHING.
Yikes. Haven’t seen that one yet. That would probably be a fail for me. I like “collect 30 plunder” as an opener.
I’ve spent most of my games thus far on the edges of the map, collecting plunder and trying to avoid people until I feel I’ve gotten enough/get unlucky/get bored. I’ve killed a few players, almost always in panicked self-defense or by accident. (Okay, several times in cold blood…)
But if I can get 500+ plunder in a match, I’m happy. And if I die early, at least it’s a quick requeue!
Not me being a weenie, waiting until I see a player almost dead from mobs, then going in for the finishing strike. I’m a monster. I can’t kill them on my own so I take the victory from the NPCs and claim it.
I only have the use of one hand/arm, so I am unable to play this thing properly. On behalf of disabled people everywhere, please add an auto run command.
Jumping from the mouse to the keyboard and back while using only one hand is ridiculous.
I have a Razer Naga 18-button mouse that I control everything from in Retail and Classic WoW, but it does me no good here because the buttons are all unresponsive. There needs to be a way to reprogram all the attack tray keys to a mouse.
Other than that, I just run run run and collect gold constantly, never stopping and never fighting any mobs nor players. It’s the only way to collect enough gold to get the pets and mounts.
Hopefully, now that they seem to have gotten the mode right with the excellent new changes (choose your area, plunderstore, 1:1 ratio) we will get more maps for future seasons. I think a section Tiragarde Sound would be an excellent map or Grizzly Hills.
You can, go into options and keybind auto run.
Keybinds in plunderstorm are separate from retail.
Okay, I found Keybindings. It’s not that intuitive to find it but it’s there under Escape once you’re in-game. Kind of nutty to be trying to program that while getting ganked in-game but whatever.
I found an auto run button I could put to my mouse, but I’m still trying to get the other commands onto my mouse. Thanks for the help, though.
This round feels so much better as a PvE player. In just a few hours I got all the mounts and a few pieces of xmog. The change to grinding the currency to get what I want is a huge plus for me.
What I meant is they introduced a separate practice zone where you can apparently hang out as long as you want before you queue. I didn’t know if you could edit keybinds in there or not.
I wish I could edit the UI… I hate having things in the middle of the screen.
