Recently invested in a 100GB a month hotspot.
The question I have is how many GB an hour does the game use? So far I’ve used 25 GB of data and haven’t been on the game all day or night.
If anyone can give me a solid response, I’d appreciate the help. Thanks!
I’ve never seen WoW go over 1gig in an entire month, with the exception of background downloads and such which are not often either.
I know from experience that the hotspots use data even when you’re not using them. My dad bought one from Verizon with a 10gig limit (it was years ago) and he burned through all 10gigs in a few days, even though he wasn’t hardly on it.
They have internal programs running “for you” for things like news and other crap and they even suggest you turn it off every time you’re not using it just for that reason.
Get Netlimiter and it will show you your entire inbound/outbound usage and what program is sending/receiving data. It’s free to use, but you have to pay to get some of the other features, stuff I’ve never had to use.
The other thing I would do is trade that POS hotspot for a USB dongle if you’re only able to get cell service. It plugs right into your computer. If you want the wireless connectivity, get a USB enabled WIFI router for it, Cradlepoint used to make them for consumers, but they seem to be corporate only. I’m sure there are others out there, just have to search for WIFI routers that have a USB port and support your specific dongle.
Just adding a support warning here: We do not support mobile 4g tethered connections. They may work but the game is not designed to work on this type of connection. On top of factors out side of the users control such as local usage that may cause sudden issues.
