Like… where are they? What are the major Darkspear women lore characters? Y’all know of any? There needs to be some more. ASAP.
Talanji is cool and all but like… where is my big bad troll QUEEN? Ya feel me?
I don’t know a much about the Troll lore characters but there seems to be very few women. There’s Zen’Tabra but that’s really it. Zandalar seems to have more representation which is nice. Yazma is awsome.
It’s a shame cause trolls are suppose to not have that strict of gender roles so it’d be cool to see way more troll female lore characters, particularly darkspear.
I wouldn’t count on anything from Blizzcon 2019 homie. It’s going to be more “WHO LOVES SYLVANAS?!” lore with some goofy cringe protests, some new Hearthstone stuff and probably Diablo 4. And that will be that.
Really there is only Zen’tabra. I like her character and hope to see more of her in the limelight.
There is that one chick in the starting zone, Vanira… I’m not sure if she’s done anything noteworthy after the echo islands.
Blizz thinks Darkspear women shouldn’t be seen OR heard.
Like Vol’jin’s wife. Who apparently exists, but has never been named or shown ever. It’s understandable though, as Vol’jin was such a minor character. Not like he was Warchief and future god of the Horde…
Vol’jin had a wife?
BfA made me aware of the Trolls using the term “Ma’da”. I dont know if Trolls had used that term before BfA. As far as females, the Blood Trolls have a heavily matriarchal thing going on. I was really hoping we would have 1 Big Bad Ma’da Blood Troll as a raid boss fight. Like, the head Blood Troll Matriarch with a name and a little bit of lore and an awesome raid fight. But the Ma’das were sort of just quest and trash mobs.
The Zandalari seem to have a deep roster of minor characters of both genders that can always be expanded on - but probably won’t.
As far as the Darkspear… few females come to mind. Their roster is lacking in both genders, anyway. Senjin and Voljin are dead. Rokhan is the most active. Then we have that Master G dude.
There is a female Druid? And there is a Female Troll NPC that says something interesting- but her name escapes me.
I think if we are gonna have a Big Bad Voodoo Ma’da scary Troll Queen, it is going to be Talanji.
And several adult children.
Yeah, that’s the usual response when this topic comes up.
I would also like to take the time to say I’m super disappointed they didn’t do anything with her in BfA. You’d think with Vol’jin dying, being honored by the Zandalari, and having his soul stolen and recovered that she’d show up somewhere.
Blizzard’s track record with female characters isn’t very good.
…Well, hell, I really like the Darkspear and even I didn’t know Vol’jin’s wife was presumably still kicking around.
I was also stuck on “Zen’tabra and… Uh. Mmm…” for female Darkspear of note. Would like to see Vol’jin’s family more. If the big guy’s staying a ghost, his kids (except for the dead one) and wife would make prime IMPORTANT DARKSPEAR CHARACTERS. And we really, really need more Darkspear. They’re the only “almost extinct” race I can actually buy as being almost extinct, with how empty their roster is!
Zen’tabra, Bwemba, Vanira… that’s all that come to mind. Maybe Shadow Hunter Mala from Warlords if I wanted to stretch. She got a boat named after her I guess.
Might seem something in the future, as the same could be said for a lot of the races. Plus given the nature of the blood trolls that we fight in Zandalar it’s not like they’re opposed to giving female trolls a more dominate roll in any given troll society.
I mean, you can say that, but there’s just as many female as male Darkspear characters right now. It’s just that the female ones don’t get any real attention.
Bwemba is a…witch doctor? Maybe? She was the main Darkspear rep handing out quests during Cata though.
Vanira was one of 4 who participated in the slaying of the Darkspear’s hated enemy in the Sea Witch. I think she’s a Shaman, maybe. Also disappeared completely since.
Zen’tabra is the leader of the Darkspear druids I’m pretty sure, and also was one of your first recruits to the Druid Order Hall in Legion. That in addition to the lore she got for her intro during Cataclysm. Nothing about her for BfA though.
The PC can be a fem!Darkspear, though that hardly counts.
Then there’s ZappyBoi.
There’s also Master Gadrin, for all that BFA is the first time he’s done anything at all.
Then Rokhan, who got a big role this expac after being ignored for over a decade.
So that’s 3 and 3 for living Darkspears. Though you’ll note that this list includes literally ALL of the notable Darkspear characters that Blizzard have made excepting Vol’jin.
I’m pretty sure the only race with a thinner roster is the Gnomes, and only barely at that.
There are lots of darkspear women roving around as guards in Orgrimmar and Razor Hill, if that counts for anything.
Dude, the Darkspear in general have a serious lack of developed characters. I’m not sure you should be worried about the females alone.
Are there even more than 2 or so notable Darkspear characters anymore?
As others said, there has been very little development for Darkspears apart from Vol’jin in the past. Even Rok’han didnt have much to him prior to BfA apart from being an old Shadowhunter who was around in the background from time to time. That is why when Vol’jin died no one had any real idea who could replace him as Darkspear chieftain and people just started suggesting anyone with a name.
It is a classic example of how Blizzard has seriously underdeveloped the Horde’s line up outside the Blood Elves and maybe the Goblins.
Yeah this was more my point honestly. I was thinking how I can think of a couple female characters for Orc, Blood elf (duh) and Forsaken (duh) which have featured in BfA, but not so much Darkspear (or really Tauren for that matter?)
Rokhan and “Zappyboi” got some spotlight. I mean, he’s somewhat a joke character but he was given full CGI attention, something most races don’t.
But yeah, they do lack a prominent roster… but it’s especially apparent, to me, for the females.
I know. I love them.
