Darkspear Troll Heritage (Suggestion)

So, in the next patch Humans and Orcs will be getting their heritage armor which is great!

Personally I am waiting for darkspear heritage and can’t wait to see how it turns out.

Now the most likely theme for the heritage armour is gonna be around Shadow hunter and witch doctor theme.

With the heritage for the non-allied races there are a questline that focuses on the lore of that race.

Before the leaders of trolls were kings and warlords the leader of the tribes were usually the more spiritual shadow hunters or they had at least a great deal of influence and advised the leaders of the tribes.

Sen’jin, Vol’jin’s father and a former leader of the darkspear tribe, wished and dreamed that trollkind would once again be led by shadow hunters as they had been in the past.

Shadow hunters are still part of the other tribes even if they are not led by them.

Many of the larger tribes however have been defeated and in a lot of cases only a few members of the tribes remain.

This brings me to my suggestion for this heritage questline.

What if Rokhan were to pull a Zul and travel across Azeroth to find these scattered members of the ruined tribes and convince them to join the darkspear in realizing Sen’jin’s dream.

Naturally not all tribes are gonna accept this and are most likely going to be hostile towards us but if we have a Zandalari emissary with us they might hesitate to take drastic actions.

Different tribes most likely have different trials and rites of passage to become shadow hunters.
So during these travels we could be forced to complete these tribes trials in order to show us worthy of being shadow hunters and leaders in their eyes.

The reason for this suggestion and for us to recruit these tribes is to open the door and earning the customization options for Forest and Ice trolls larger models.

People have been asking for beefy trolls for a long time and this would be a great way to introduce them.

Let me know what you think!
Do you have other suggestions or ideas I’d love to hear it!

Personally, this sounds very cool. I don’t have any other suggestions or ideas for the troll heritage questline. This would be a nice throwback to Darkspear lore, in addition to expanding on one of the more important/major aspects regarding trollkind.

I am glad you like it!

I hope we get to see more of the ancient tribal culture of the trolls.
While I love the Zandalari they seem too modern with their large kingdom and strict caste system.
So with this suggestion I hope it could make the darkspear represent the old way and its tribal practices while zandalari represent the modern way.
That way the zandalari does not overshadow the darkspear in the story telling and they get their own unique views on matters at hand.

My dumb idea was the Troll champion fuses with a Loa like most troll foes and Vol’jin. It would offer the Troll a unique outfit depending on which is Loa chosen for the story.

Your ideas sound pretty cool, but I would like Vol’jin to be involved in the Darkspear Troll heritage quests, somehow.

It’s been years now since the disorder in the Shadowlands was resolved - let’s fast track Vol’jin back to having a presence on Azeroth.

The needle needs to be moved forward on Vol’jin’s rebirth/reincarnation storyline and there really isn’t a better occasion for it.

That sounds like a really cool concept actually!
Sadly blizzard does not seem to make different versions of the heritage armors for a race aside from colours and dress/pants.
But I do hope we get to see it some day!

Oh for sure! Vol’jin was the leader of the darkspear and a shadow hunter who now has become a Loa himself.
Though I am not sure if he should be the focus of the heritage quest as Vol’jins new status is also gonna be a part of the zandalari story so Vol’jin deserve more to be a main story part.
The loa of kings, Rezan gave his essence to Vol’jin so that what he was can be reborn within Vol’jin.
Which would make Vol’jin the loa of kings sort of.

It would be great though if they released the continuation of Vol’jins story at the same time as the heritage story. That way if they do something similar to my suggestion the new members can be part of Vol’jins rebirth and ascension.

Well, besides the upcoming Orc and Human colors. Might see the Trolls have two colors since there are Sand Trolls are among the customizations… for some reason.

We also got dark troll skin colour as customization at the same time.
So the only ones we don’t have., I think, are Forest, Ice and blood troll skin.

I’m going to be selfish and say I don’t care for the idea of including other tribes regarding the Darkspear Heritage quest or armor design. I want it centered on the Darkspear tribe. I want a kilt/loincloth and a mask, the kind of stuff we’ve been seeing in official art for trolls for decades but have never had because we always get full on skirts/dresses or pants. I want something along the lines of what Zekhan is wearing, but with more color. I can’t link images but I pretty much want the exact armor the old troll poster boy from back in 2004 wears, but with a mask included. You can see the image on wowpedia on the “trolls (playable)” page. And I’d also prefer the questline to center around Vol’jin, but I’d also be fascinated to learn more about the events that lead the Darkspear to be exiled from Stranglethorn Vale in the first place.

Thank you for your feedback!

I agree that the armour design should be based on the darkspear tribe and the old picture you refer to is one that I love and still remember from the world of warcraft guide book that I had.

As for the quest to be centered around Vol’jin I fear the heritage quest will end up focusing too much on the present event rather than digging deeper into troll culture.

So I personally hope we get to focus on Sen’jins dream and to experience the shadow hunter trials for our selves.

It is possible though that they go with the route of our heritage focus on the rebirth of Vol’jin as a loa.
But it feels like a more main story event that is relevant for more than just darkspear, Vol’jin is important to zandalari as well as the horde as a whole.

But as for the design of the armour I 100% agree with your idea.

Vol’jins story is over. I don’t want him to return to us in any way. All he will do is pull a Baine and tell the trolls of both tribes that being mean to the humans is wrong. We have enough of that BS already even without him. Let him stay dead in Shadowlands and have one of his children get the leadership of the Darkspear instead.

We are getting Gurbashi sets, that is pretty much your heritage armor. We could use more though.
