The small glimpse of the customization options for Trolls show that we are going to have the option to make characters close in appearance to Sand Trolls . Would this imply that the Troll characters are no longer just Darkspear, but come from a wider variety of tribes? The only explanation that would make sense would be the addition of the Zandalari has brought more lesser Trolls into the Horde, but I wonder if they are gonna explain in game some of the reasoning behind the customization options.
I would like it if there was, just like Dwarves getting Wildhammer options. It’d be neat if the Darkspear and Zandalari were going around recruiting other trolls.
I really like that Wildhammer options are now available too. They were implied to be a part of the Dwarf option when they added Shamans to the race in Cata, so having the appearances was long overdue.
But the Troll options came outta left field considering the hate showed towards the Horde by the Sand Trolls in Vol’dun leveling.
I’m confused their I remember a blue posting, the dwarves we play as are only Bronzebeard Dwarves and Humans we play as are strictly Stormwind only… but now all these new customisations coming… it’s weird.
Like I thought Wildhammer be getting the allied race treatment
The player character is labeled as a “troll” , so it would be cool if you could basically customize what troll race you want to be from. Giving the option of jungle, sand, ice, and forest trolls makes it more fun for players. I hope they go this route.
Same for dwarves. You can now be a bronzebeard or wildhammer. The player character is listed as dwarf, it’s up to the player to decide what kind of dwarf.
More options is a great thing
I don’t think they’re adding a lore reason. They’re giving us more customization, which is cheaper than adding more allied races.
From what I understand, the new starting zone doesn’t establish your character’s origin, but rather you being sent to check up on a lost squad or the like (but you can still chose the old starting zones instead).
So races having options to make other species and such doesn’t clash with a starting zone that tells you “you are among the last of the darkspear tribe. As such you…” but rather “Hey, soldier! Here’s your mission, get to it!”.
That was then and this is now ![]()
We have a new starting zone now for all Characters. That means a new human won’t start in Stormwind, and a new Troll won’t start in the Darkspear islands.
And since the Races are called “Dwarf” and “Troll”, and not “Bronzebeard Dwarf” or “Darkspear Troll”, there’s no reason not to allow a “Troll” to be a Sand Troll or a “Dwarf” to be a Wildhammer Dwarf.
The lore reason could be certain smaller tribes banding together after the threat of the alliance attack.
Side note~ The trolls yell “for zul’jin”… they better add forest troll customization for that reason. Now it can make sense when they say it.
But but but the dwarf heritage armour…

That’s a Bronzebeard-themed set. But you don’t have to wear it.
You can go mostly naked with a few feathers here and there, like a Wildhammer ![]()
Saving Azeroth naked with feathers? I’m sold!!!
This. It’s a way more efficient way to add in the dozens of other subraces and nationalities that people want to play as but can’t.
Now I hope they add new totems for the core races, looks so out of date compared to new races.
It’s really hard to tell… are the middle trolls in that picture they showed for new customization options, dark trolls?
I doubt it. Dark trolls are said to be all but extinct with the last member of the dark troll tribe being in Zandalar and kept safe as an emissary.
Woah, woah! You can’t say that!
Are they though?
The Shadowtooth Tribe was wiped out.
There’s only one remaining Shadowtooth.
The question is: Was the Shadowtooth Tribe the only tribe of Dark Trolls in the world?
Dark Trolls live underground. They are not easy to find. There could be other tribes around.
I dont play Horde, but im happy Trolls are getting more options.
It does make me think about how awkward it is that DI Dwarves get a whole allied race, but Wildhammer are just a skin. I wonder if Blizz regret the allied races somewhat.
Zandalari make sense as a new race since they are more upright and chad like, but DI Dwarves are more or less just edgier Dwarves.
Yeah that’s why I questioned if it was indeed dark trolls. Some people are mentioning that they believe it to be dark troll skins, so I was wondering if they might have added it just for fun. RIP my dark troll brothers and sisters
