Hey all, I have a new problem that I am hoping for some advice about…
Last month, I bought several Darkmoon Top-Hats, with the intention of storing them for future use, not realizing that Blizzard, in their endless mission to take from the players, who pay their salaries, had set these items up that they were basically consumables, that just disappear from you inventory if you don’t use them during the faire.
My question is if there is any way to request the spent tickets be refunded for these taken items?? I do not recall exactly how many hats I purchased before, only that I took a few of my alts to the faire to spend their tickets to buy them all. now all of my tickets are pretty much gone. Do I have to go back and win a bunch of tickets to get hats now, with me just hating it, or is there any recourse??
Please clarify, and THANKS in advance!!
All seasonal items disappear from character inventories when the seasonal event to which they belong ends. Been that way for a long time.
If the item’s tooltip has ‘Requires [Event Name]’ in it, it will despawn when the event ends.
There is no recourse – what happened was what was designed to happen, and that’s been the design for many years.
That seems truly lame, but I guess i should expect that from the new Blizz…
They now have a policy of removing critical information from tooltips so you won’t know what you need to know until it’s too late. I bought an enchant last night and couldn’t use it because my piece had too high an item level. But nowhere on the item did it say what the required item level was.
I can probably put it back on the auction house and sell it at a huge loss.
It’s not new. Seasonal items have behaved this way since holidays were implemented. Darkmoon Faire is no exception. Brewfest is a good example:
When the tooltip says, “Requires [Holiday Name]” the item in question despawns at the end of the holiday.
The new Blizz… it has been that way since the old Blizz…
Perhaps, but it still seems a bit sadistic to force players to spend, difficult to obtain currencies, on items that are just going to disappear from their inventories / banks, in a week…
That having been said, I suppose I can just try to rebuild up all my lost Darkmoon Tickets, and just remember this for the future!!
I agree that it sucks that you lost all of those tickets… but event stuff like that has always disappeared. It really isn’t anything new.
The darkmoon top hat was introduced over 5 years ago, there is nothing “new” about this. Sorry you wasted a pile of tickets, but a bit of common sense should inform one that Blizzard is not going to make a 10% rep+xp bonus available every day of the year by hat stockpiling.

I disagree with this. You can get a 10% rep+xp bonus from Darkmoon Faire trivially with the carousel, every day it’s up. That’s the obvious bonus; it’s extremely inexpensive (outside travel hassles).
The idea that Blizzard would let you spend some of your hard-earned tickets to get a short-term buff outside Darkmoon Faire days by buying hats is hardly outside “common sense”. This is especially true since, unless they very recently fixed it, the hat does not stack with the carousel. This leaves the hat with almost no purpose; yes, it saves you travel time, but the ticket cost is really high compared to the travel cost savings.
The hat made sense as it is before the carousel went in. As it stands, with the carousel, the hat is basically a left-over anomaly that defies common sense; it ought not to exist. Someone trying to make sense out of there being a hat, that does for a high cost what can be done for nearly nothing, can be excused for thinking it should outlast the Faire.
Wait, what? No, I’m fairly sure that the tophat and the carousel were introduced simultaneously during MoP, or very nearly so. The point of the hat is simply to alleviate the travel back and forth, which for non-mages, or chars not hearthed to a city with portals, can be kind of a pain.
You’re right; I didn’t remember the time sequence properly. That makes it even more silly. I suppose some people might find 10 tickets worth the savings of the travel time, but really, it’s an incredibly high cost compared to the carousel. I’ll stick with: these never made much sense.
Something that may help in rebuilding your tickets:
When the Faire is open, fish up 100 Daggermaw in the waters around the island; this can be done on any characters as the Daggermaw aren’t soulbound and so can be mailed between alts (it also takes less time than you’d think, since sometimes you’ll get a bloated fish that contains several Daggermaw).
Then, turn them into the fishing prize vendor in exchange for the treasure map–this in turn leads you to a “stash” on Darkmoon Island which contains (along with other goodies) 100 Darkmoon Tickets. The map can be bought and used once for each of your characters.
Thanks Gayle, I have already fished a bunch of those, while doing the Fishing quests, now all I need to do is fish a bunch more, then find the Fishing vendor to get to this ‘stash’…
Good idea, and thanks again.
Also, not ecstatic about all of the venom I got from this post TBH, but not really shocking either, as forums often can be a den of angry trolls, with no intention of giving useful advice, who only want to shame you for not knowing the answer. This seems a bit pointless to me, and makes me wonder what good asking for information in forums truly is!!
