Last I checked proc rate was not determined by parts equipped. Believe he said in the video that he adjusted the DPS accordingly.
Its trash, it has to proc 3+ to beat bloodfang, and every fight has been 0-2 procs making it worse or equal to bf. Only fight Ive seen value out of it was c’thun because the fight is actually long enough with long uptime, everywhere else it just doesnt proc enough.
If you have a new rogue or you don’t have 8/8 BF, sure go get it. But if you got 8/8 BF there was no reason to get it, just get your 2.5

No, but the value of energy increases with the quality of your gear/buffs. He did his test with a suboptimal setup and only some consumables, therefore missing out on the AP of all the world buffs.
His tests were bad.
I think most run of the mill rogues are just really reserved about “upgrading” to Darkmantle because they love sporting their Bloodfang set and are looking for reasons/excuses to not have to farm their .5 or use blues over their sweet full purples.
It might not be an absolute game changer but it’s an upgrade. That’s the facts. If it’s worth it to you, you’ll get it. If you’re lazy then you won’t get it. The end.

Mmmmkay. It hasn’t been shown to be an actual upgrade…especially for dagger rogues. As for looks, anything looks better than my clown suit LOL! It has nothing to do with being lazy. It has everything to do with whether it is actually an upgrade. From what I have seen, it can be an upgrade and it also can be a downgrade and whether it is or isn’t is entirely based on RNG.
It is an upgrade. Its not a massive upgrade unless you get very lucky…but saying it has not been shown to be an upgrade is misinformed at best. Darkmantle has been known to have been good as soon as Shacowcraft was found to be procing higher than private servers. DM has the exact same proc rate. It is an upgrade, it’s not a secret and it is not a surprise either
Likely you only hear this from Rogues still missing Shadowcraft chest or legs and can’t be bothered to put in the effort to get it, so they tell themselves and others whatever they can to feel better about their lack of desire to suck it up.
It’s an unfortunate truth, friend, I won’t deny that. You didn’t save your .5 pieces from back when you were pre-raid gearing and you feel silly for not having thought far enough ahead, I get it.
…but it’s still an upgrade. No way around it.
Its worth it if your under geared and missing pieces. Every rogue in my raid has swapped but me because I’m swords and with full tier 2. It has been a dps increase but not noticeable without world buffs and solid proc %. Either way its still up there with tier 2.
The set bonus doesn’t shine without world buffs because it scales better with them.
Clearly no one actually read the guides because most of them mentioned it being a dps increase over tier 2 specifically with world buffs. Also daggers cant use tier 2 8/8 so its better for them cause they have to mixmatch because of ACLG.

Some pieces of bloodfang are also garbage compared to t1 like the shoulders.
I have full Darkmantle, and apart from the boots it sucks and I regret all the time and money I spent on it.

…why? It’s an objective upgrade.
If you have t1 or better it’s not worth it. The proc bonus was massively nerfed from how it was on private servers, and it’s simply not worth the massive hit to stats from nightslayer. Procs have to make a massive stat cut worth it and they’re too infrequent to do so.

Darkmantle is proven better with actual data. There’s not really a debate to be had.
nothing beats getting off a double/triple Backstab on the target you Cheapshot! all the while doing a goofy dance animation in between hits!!
I have both sets, and bloodfang just outperforms DM

Um…what? The proc rate is significantly higher than private servers. That is why Shadowcraft 6 piece was not on the prebis lists at the start of Classic even though SC is about as good as full tier 1.
The procs DO make up for the stats cut. 2 procs makes up for any stat loss. Only 2. And it just so happens that you’re going to get 2 on most fights…with the ability to get many more.
Saying DM is not worth it because it’s worse than Nightslayer is unfathomably silly since Shafowcraft rivals NS. And darkmantle BiS in AQ is only 3 DPS lower than full tier 2.5 BiS. DM is on par with AQ gear.

The 0.5 set is BIS for rogues until you acquire four 2.5 pieces. (That’s especially true for dagger and fist rogues. For sword rogues, you could actually keep 0.5 all the way through AQ40. It’s that good.) I have several rogues and I’ve kept the 0.5 set for my main.
For other classes, well, it all depends what your goals are. Some 0.5 sets are better than others. Rogues really got the best end of that deal, fortunately for me.
I’m convinced there is a band of retail trolls who are purposely necro’ing tons of threads in the Classic forum.
