I’m doubting an allied race. A few textures and noises don’t make for a whole new race, especially one that is restricted to one or two classes.
The quests that that have been datamined about the Dark Rangers in 9.2.5 are hunter specific, and are given at the Hunter Order Hall. This is more likely to be a new customization option for Elf Hunters. New skins and sounds the same way DKs have their own sounds and undead looking skins along with regular looking skins.
While I wouldn’t be able to speculate well on what those clips belong to, I would say that the addition of the allied race would be neat as well as very wanted. Even if people don’t necessarily know what Darkfallen are, we’ve heard the requests for Dark Rangers (which are Darkfallen) for years. Whether they go the route of an allied race or a customization option, it would be fairly popular.
Personally, I’m a bit lost on why it is when requests or speculative posts are made, one of the first things that I see happen is people running in to chime in that other people are dumb, or their point otherwise unworthy of consideration. How would it harm other people, if people got what they wanted, or their speculations were proven wrong? What if some things about their speculation were right, and other things off the mark?
The benefit of these discussions is to think tank, to explore and share, as well as share expressions of desire. If people do not post about what they want, or otherwise keep their theories quiet, then Blizzard cannot hear its own community - the community we’ve demanded they listen to - and minds are left with questions that can’t be explored in what should be a fun environment.
I think we could all benefit from being considerate and compassionate when joining other people’s threads.
It’d be like if there was a group of worgen that used to be like Lordaeronians or something and so went and rejoined the Forsaken. Like, they’re still worgen and it’d still be weird.
It should be noted that the Forsaken themselves tried, repeatedly, to rejoin with their family members, and were met with (sometimes lethal) rejection, or were otherwise betrayed by their own for doing so.
I don’t think that the newly undead Night Elves would be compared to Worgen so much as they would be comparable to the Lordaeronian Forsaken, and thusly, would attempt to rejoin their own, and because they’d have an open invitation, would be able to declare that they’re undead, but not Forsaken.
Worgen were Gilnean, and have fought extensively to reclaim Gilneas. A Worgen from Lordaeron could be possible, but would be a very individual situation, and that particular individual could very well try to choose to join, or have reasons for why they wouldn’t.
My point wasn’t about the specific lore explanation behind worgen so much as the fact that even if there were worgen who were from a currently Horde-aligned group who joined the Horde, worgen are an Alliance thing and it would be weird for them to join the Horde.
Your point was to say, “this belongs to the Alliance, so if it joined the Horde, it would be weird,” but the problem with it is what I highlighted in the rest of my post, which was, “they belonged to the Alliance, like the Forsaken used to as they were Lordaeronian, and thusly it would make sense that they would try to return to the Alliance, unless forced to do otherwise.”
Essentially, my note was that Worgen wouldn’t be a good example to reflect the mentality of what happened and how these people were effected.
Undead, on the other hand (as these elves are) were Alliance, did try to return, and were forced to do otherwise. So it is very sensible that these elves would try to return, especially if encouraged and received.
We’re already getting a new race in 10.0. One might assume that PO’s get the race early during 9.2.5 (or later). I’m not ruling out the possibility of another allied race, but this seems like a stretch.
But the former human Forsaken didn’t rejoin the Alliance. They tried and failed, but realistically that’s meaningless. It didn’t change the outcome. Forsaken have been Horde from day 1 and them suddenly flipping would be weird.
Dark rangers have also been a very visible Horde unit type since the start of the game. It’d be like there suddenly being Alliance shadow hunters or Horde priestesses of the moon.
