Yes.

I saw black squares during my Azure Vault run. I noticed them under Leymor, under Azureblade during the Overwhelming Energy phase and on the Telash Greywing encounter on the rune during the Absolute Zero phase.

I saw this as soon as I logged in. All players, NPCs, and anything that could move is pixelated, and even turns blue in some cases.

Yes, I am having the same issues. Unable to play dungeons since all mechanics cover the ground with black tiles. I turned the shadows to Ultra, and it removed them from players in the city, but not from mechanics in dungeons.

You all might want to try what these people have done in the following thread/

I will try it later to see if that helps.

I tried that console command and it didn’t do anything for textures in dungeons.

I noticed that this happens when you set your video option for shadow quality to “low” instead of “fair” or higher quality shadows - however I do feel this is still some sort of regression. Weird they got rid of the “blob” option… hmm.

Note: I see this issue for Linux/Wine and I cannot seem to get the game to run under win7 anymore…

Not supported

While they still claim Windows 7 is supported, driver companies like Nvidia stopped putting out any new branches for them over a year ago and the only updates they’ve gotten have been for security exploits. Windows 7 is 14 years old now, so I’d advise you upgrade.

Linux may not be officially supported, but it does work under linux using wine which is a program that allows users to run most windows programs… The fact that it only just recently started happening after the patch and it is happening for others that might not be running under linux still makes his complaint valid.

Also there might be other linux users that have found a work around that might also work for windows users… Yes blizzard doesn’t have to help anyone running it under linux due to it not being officially supported… but the community particularly other linux users do have the right to help each other out.

I am runing this game under both linux using win10 settings in wine and I dual boot native windows 10, The issue does indeed appear to be an issue with very low graphics settings. So far setting the shadows to fair instead of low appears to stop it from happening under players and most npcs. This is a very similar issue to another game i play called The Sims 2. Which if i remember right comes from in part graphics cards compatibility issues. Trying to upgrade graphics drivers might help… otherwise i found having graphics settings better than the lowest also helps in this particular case. Try pushing all lowest settings to the next best…

Perhaps support might have been dropped for some lower end graphics cards. but it also could just be that nvidia needs to catch up in drivers idk.

Same problem here, also with Windows 7. Just started happening with the 10.0.5 patch. Hopefully it gets fixed soon, its very annoying in raid with some ground target effects causing it and others not. Windows 7 is old but still officially supported.

Also running Linux on Ultra with a 2080TI and have not found a solution. I don’t usually see the artifacts in open world, but I do see it at the world boss consistently. Its constant in dungeons with storming.

Linux is currently on 525 Nvidia drivers. Guessing all the Windows users who fixed it by updating drivers are on 528. Hoping this gets fixed without having to wait for a 528 Linux release from Nvidia.

I encountered this issue in Arch linux using the wine-staging 7.22 package. I noticed that the Arch repo now offers the wine package at version 8.0-1 and it has resolved the issue.

On non-rolling Linux distros, I’m assuming you’ll either need to add a repository with the new package or you’ll need to use something like Lutris or Bottles with the latest version of Wine. Not sure what the root cause is, but just wanted to share this with others.

i played until almost 2am tuesday morning and as soon as i logged in after the patch i had the black boxes changed shadow settings to fair and it removed them from under players and npc’s but entered the raid and as soon as the add circles came out on eranog they had black boxes under them and the fire swirlies also had them so far it seems limited to fire ground effects at least for me had no other problems in raid except for Kurog on the fire section

I’m running Arch Linux with the Windows version set to 10 and wasn’t having these issues until this patch. I have to use DX11, as DX12 still has issues in Wine.

Using /console gxrestart fixes many of them, but all of Crawth’s fight’s AOEs, storming, and some of the Azure Vaults scenery ground particles just render as black squares, usually with the spell’s actual artwork visible but broken transparency.

I’m running an RX5600 XT and Ryzen 7 5800X with 32GB of RAM, and my temps haven’t gotten over 70 degrees Celsius when I have these issues, and I keep all my drivers etc up to date.

Hey all,

We’re aware of a bug causing the black squares as shadows under characters. It is tied to specific armor sets / gear. The WoW team is working on getting a hotfix out for this issue soon.

thank you it was rough trying to raid when all i could see was black boxes around boss but only seemed to happen on eranog and Kurog fire

Not sure why we’re given the option to link a website in this box, and then be told we can’t reply with links. Solid move. Anyway, here’s what my screens are looking like:

Any thoughts/remedies would be appreciated

Thanks for the official reply. Hopefully whatever hotfix that comes in fixes the ground target effects black boxes too, and it is not just for player character shadows. The ground target black boxes are extremely frustrating in dungeons/raids when trying to dodge mechanics.

Its because you reset every ones graphic settings . If every one puts them back the way they where before patch black box is no longer there .
