What do you think is it possible for them to add option to make your UI frames black? I think it would be sick to have that option. There I bunch of addons but I don’t like to use addons, especially now since they improved to UI to the point you don’t need anything else
The more options added to the base game the better. Using addons is not safe anymore it’s difficult to find a addon site that doesn’t force bloat/malware onto your pc like Overwolf. For security reasons it would be best if WoW started adding any popular addons into their in-game available options.
Alternatively, having an in-game workshop where you can download addon from inside the game itself would be fantastic this would remove the security risk and bloatware.
This is false, but go on.
I already use a dark UI with ElvUI.
Having dark options in the default UI would be a step towards reducing my UI load. I believe the latest patch gives different backgrounds to quest givers that you can choose from.
Ok, without using the overwolf malware where do you get your addons these days?
I don’t even think you need an account to use the client?(which doesn’t even default to open on startup). I think it’s bloat but like I have more problems with discord lmao.
You could use elvui. It’s completely customizable.
I just use the Curseforge stand alone app. It doesn’t have overwolf built in. Never had a problem. Load the app, update my addons, close the app. No Overwolf stuff ever loads. Nothing runs in the background. I’ve never had malware.
There is also wowup.
Plus you can actually download addons manually and then copy the unzipped files into your interface directory without every using an App.
Just looked at the curseforge app, it’s ran by overwolf and it states openly it collects information in specific to send marketing to you. For them to send you marketing the type of data they would need is your location, and browsing histroy.
No thanks.
They do this of course to pay the addon makers however getting addons makers support isn’t worth having invasive applications.
Every single web page you visit in the world gets your relative location via your IP Address. Mine says I am 20 miles away, albeit still in the state of California with its 40 million inhabitants. The App doesn’t have access to my browsing history. I don’t usually maintain a history anyway. My work requires that I clear it dozens of times per day.
But it is your choice. I suspect that even if it didn’t collect your IP address like everything else, you’d still complain about it.
You can mask the ip if you use a vpn
Wowup for most.
You can also do it manually.
There’s solutions to this, you just don’t care to try.
1000% this.
Also look if devs have their repos on github.
I get updates to one of the addons I use exclusively from GitHub, since I need to tweak it a bit for it to do what I want.
Are you a new player? Back in my day we installed all of our addons manually. Downloading updates and installing them on our own regularly. Download the file, unzip it and drop it into the addons folder. Curseforge as a client is a relatively new development in my eyes.
I use curseforge and have 0 issues with anything you’re mentioning…
You act like someone is out to get you yet you probably use google.
not new, just all the trusted sites kinda vanished in favor of ones that push the automated process onto you. Or if they don’t they require accounts, or the site itself has security flaws that may allow for virus’s to be slipped into the addons.
If blizzard hosted this in-game someway it would work better because it would add a level of security. Think of it like using protection.
I have never once in my life downloaded an addon that had a virus in it. Granted I’m a bit of a minimalist when it comes to addons. DBM, Bartender, Weakauras and Details is all I use.
It’s more about account security then anything, authenticator protects the account of course but even having the ability to get to it suggests a larger problem. I have a question for you, where do you think account hacks come from? Do you think all accounts that get compromised bought gold? Or do you think the more likely scenario is that some of these addon sites are not as safe as we think they are?
