If I get a Dark Thought proc, do I use it right away or do I mind flay before mind blast?
I’m using the void tendril legendary gloves.
My instinct says to use it asap, as you only proc dark thoughts while casting mind flay, and recasting mindflay adds 1.5 seconds gcd and using the mind blast costs another, so my brain tells me to spend it lest you recast mindflay and due to spell priority end up losing the dark thoughts proc in the first place. Mind flay is always your lowest priority spell to be cast, I believe.
However, if you have a dark thought proc already, and all your higher priority spells are on CD, then you would be casting mind flay next anyway, so may as well make use of the ‘cast while channelling feature’.

This. Unlike every other proc in the entire game, dark thoughts does not actually reset the cooldown of the original mind blast. It just adds an extra usable one.
This means if you can flay before spending it, and doing so wouldn’t leave your base mind blast off cooldown unused, you can flay and blast during it.

Oh it does only proc while casting mind flay. Gotcha. I’m new to the spec.

It does also proc from mind sear, but thats our aoe version of mind flay, so just use the same rule as above.
