Death strike is dealing physical damage still when dark talons is active. I hope they fix this cause I want to try a frost DK build in which I completely ignore using frost strike and use death strike instead with rune of sanguination on…

Doesn’t death strike do almost zero damage as frost?
Shadowfrost death coils would be awesome too. I posted a bug report about it during beta but I don’t think they care lol.

It so crazy they word the talent like that when it actually only changes one ability.
You wouldn’t want to do this for several reasons:
Obliteration burst does not include death strike to proc killing machine
Base damage of death strike is significantly lower, so it would only see a minor benefit in execute range
Higher rp cost will result in some situations where you find yourself rune-starved more often
No talents to modify DS damage
[That being said, I wouldn’t be opposed to the change at all since it adds flavor, but it would hurt blood dk due to the bloodshot talent]
Unfortunately, the bug lies in the UI tooltip rather than the talent tree one.
Coil benefiting from frost mastery would actually be really cool, too.

It’s phrased as “Runic Power spending abilities count as Shadowfrost while Icy Talons is active” and not “Runic Power spending abilities deal Shadowfrost damage while Icy Talons is active”. This ability does exactly what it says, it gives you all the buffs associated with dealing shadowfrost damage (namely from ‘Bind in Darkness’ up to 4 extra stacks towards Reaper’s Mark) but still just deals physical damage.

Hover over your icy talons buff, though, and it will say “deal shadowfrost damage” (unless they fixed this tooltip)
Would absolutely love coil and death strike dealing shadowfrost, especially having a magic damage option for blood dk, even if it would render bloodshot talent a bit useless.
if you check on the combat logs, frost strike does shadowfrost dmg while in dark talons
