[Dark Simulacrum] is this a bug?

I just started dk a few days ago, and i’ve noticed that any time i use dark sim 2 times on a pally and get HOJ both times, i am unable to cast the 2nd HOJ. ( It shows it on a cooldown thats greater than the length of the buff )
Whats the deal?

I’ve noticed also when i steal counter spell from a mage, if i use it, my mind freeze is placed on cooldown.

And if i use it on a mages blink nothing gets stolen (Blink/shimmer cost 2k mana it should work)

This is more than likely an issue with shimmer and not blink. Easily reproducible for testing if you have a mage friend. Likely just hasnt been isolated and reported but i feel like there is an overall issue with talents that change the name or modify existing spells vs. Creating new spells (example, stealing greater pyroblast which is unique)

See above.

Most talent into the reduced cooldown. We still incur the cooldown as though it were our own spell (dont ask me why). Only solid way i know to test to confirm is with two duels, one with the talent and one without, the other being to try to steal off two different pallys back to back (both talented and untalented).

Dark sim has almost always been buggy because it takes alot to qa test it thoroughly and not many interested parties since there are usually more attractive options.

This list is kinda wonky.

I’ve stolen plenty of healing spells from Druid.

also I’ve stolen blink a couple of times too and it always works for me?

You have a good point. At first i thought perhaps blink costed no mana when speced into shimmer (Dark sim specifies mana must be used) But shimmer/normal blink/ blink with blazing barrier all cost mana…
I have a funny feeling also that when you dark sim a mage speced into blazing barrier you steal the barrier and not blink.

Edit Thx for the list @Apparition
Death Knight - The class of the un-living , and you sir have proven your lack off life
Lich king watch over you <3
I’ll be adding to this list

By no means is the list final or complete and everyone feel free to add your inputs this has been something that has been changing all the time throughout each evolution of the game.

Now it is important to understand that in the PvP format the spell is in now it will only work on other players and not NPC’s so don’t even bother trying it.

Secondly it’s important that you read the Spell very carefully -

Places a dark ward on an enemy player that persists for 12 sec, triggering when the enemy next spends mana on a spell, and allowing the Death Knight to unleash an exact duplicate of that spell.

Read this as the following -

  • Triggers when a Player uses an ability that is essentially a Spell Cast Mechanism

  • Requires that in addition to the Spell Mechanism that the ability actually used some mana regardless if that is 1 Point or All of their Mana to cast.

Why is the above important well if the Spell cast uses zero mana it currently triggers the Dark Sim to go off as the Initial Spell Cast Mechanism was used but because it didn’t consume mana the spell doesn’t get copied so Dark Sim fails and returns nothing

So for example if a Druid used Innervate on a healer while that healer was under the effects of Dark Sim and they then cast a healing spell it will trigger Dark Sim but not copy the healing spell as No Mana was consumed due to the Innervate effects

To be clear - Innervate
40 yd range
Instant 3 min cooldown
Requires Druid (Balance, Restoration)
Requires level 50
Infuse a friendly healer with energy, allowing them to cast spells without spending mana for 12 sec.
