So I got to thinking about possible new hero classes.
Like let’s say they introduce any of the three. How would they explain it for the opposite faction? (Dark Ranger, Shadow Hunter Alliance. Warden Horde)
This thought came to me while I was messing around with a Helf thread and someone brought up a sort of “Mirrored” Class with Wardens going Alliance and Spellbreakers to Horde.
I got to thinking, oh maybe they could do something similar with Dark Rangers and Shadow Hunters until I realized wait. They’re both on the same faction, I mean I guess we could do something with Alleria since she’s technically a Dark Ranger (More of a Void Ranger but tomato, tomahto).
Also all three could use Mail armor (maybe plate for Wardens but I think Mail is best) however What we need is a new ranged class, and I don’t see Wardens/Spellbreakers going ranged myself (Unless they throw their respective glaives at enemies)
Anyway this is just another late night topic with Kaz.
Can we just… Not have warden on the table please and let them stay as part of the night elf identity only? It’s kind of a touchy subject.
People have brought up dark ranger before, but a lot of people have said they aren’t much different from playing a hunter so I dunno how much room there is there.

Alleria is not “technically” a Dark Ranger. She’s not a Dark Ranger at all cos she’s not dead and doesn’t have any necromancy spells. She’s just a crazy Void Elf.

I dislike this post as it is not about tinkers >:[

Technically Death Knights were much different from Warriors/Paladins just a Plate wearer controlling undeath. And then we got Demon Hunters who are a mix of Warlocks and Rogues. I’m sure we could do something with Dark Ranger, like make it a ranged stealth class who manipulates necromantic energies.
While I do agree Warden is a key part of the Night elven Identity but so are Monks for Pandaren and nearly every race can be a Monk and it hasn’t sacrificed from that identity in the slightest.
Shadow Hunter would be very tricky as they are like a mix of Hunter/Shaman/Shadow Priest. Plus it’s a very Troll centric Class, so explaining how other races (especially Alliance) could justify playing as one would be incredibly tricky.
Also while to be a Dark Ranger Does require the person to be dead. Alleria sort of skirts it by being a ranger who manipulates void energies which we discovered has the same aspects of necromantic magic (Void Undead Devilsaur in Zuldazar incursion) which is why I added a technicality for her.
EDIT: Also Tinker. Because who doesn’t want to ride a giant mech suit into battle.

Dark ranger until BFA was solely belf and now nelf but only those 2 so unless you want another class limited to nelf/belf it wont happen
Nathanos is a Dark Ranger so Humans could be it too.
By the way I find nothing wrong with limited Dark Rangers to just Belf and Nelf, I was perfectly fine with the choice with Demon Hunters.
I can appreciate what you’re saying about monk, but the race and class were developed like that. You could be a monk as soon as you bought the expansion, vs specialized NPC roles that have been around forever, but unplayable.
I will admit I am biased and I don’t want warden to be playable for anyone, but it also comes down to the recent events at darkshore and I don’t want horde to take warden into their own identity. It’s not even about players, it’s about the fact she killed a warden and resurrected her and now she’s an enemy… like I said, touchy subject.
That’s wrong. Nathanos is a Dark Ranger and in Legion during the Stormheim intro him and Sylvanas talk about training Forsaken to be Dark Rangers. So now we have Elves and Forsaken as Dark Rangers.
Just keep Dark Rangers a Horde hero class and Wardens an Alliance hero class.

If you read the whole thing you would have also included the part where I was asking how they would explain those classes on those factions.
As much as I adore Shadow Hunters in the lore, I don’t think we should have more racially specific classes. Let us get classes multiple races can play, like tinkers (necromancers could be a 4th DK spec).
Besides, classes like Shadow Hunters and Wardens have been baked into preexisting classes such as rogues and shamans. All we need is more racial flavor for their spells.
I vote for no more classes since its already a pain to balance what we have. Any more classes will further add to that, and remove abilities and power to remove what little class identity we have left.
Warden would be bad@ss. They’d probably have to be night elf only, though.
“It’s kind of a touchy subject” my eyes couldn’t roll any harder.
In regards to Dark Rangers just being hunters, I actually just mentioned this coincidentally in the “class hybrid” thread. I thought a combination of a rogue+a hunter could end up being pretty neat, and mentioned it being a possibility for a Dark Ranger class. A hunter that uses stealth and poisoned/plagued arrows could be really neat, I think. I think they’d be “basically just a hunter” in the same was a Death Knight is “basically just a warrior”. Similar yes, but there could definitely be some big unique distinctions made, as well as the feel and flavor being very different. But this might work better as a race just because ONLY belfs would be able to be Dark Rangers and that would be very limiting.
OP, as far as Shadow Hunters, those really are just rogue trolls. I believe it’s just a title for a class of rogues in Darkspear society, like a special forces.
Forsaken can be Dark Rangers too. I think they’d have more of a Lock or DK flavor added to MM Hunter though. Black arrow used to summon a reanimated skeleton.

More like Shadow using Shamans actually.

1 of those will be Alliance only and 2 will be Horde Only. Not seeing what lore justification there will be for alliance to have Dark rangers and Shadow Hunters or Horde having wardens

No more classes! Not until we get a competent class/spec balance team. Even then we Pandas need our Paladin, DK, and DH classes first >.>
