Dark Iron or Plain Dwarf?

Trying to decide if i want my new Shaman to be Dark Iron or a Plain 'ol Dwarf. It’d basically be Dark Iron vs Wildhammer as I would customize him to look like a Wildhammer Dwarf. Does one have an advantage over the other? I’ve never really been able to get into the Dark Iron but maybe this time around will be different. Decisions…

The extra hearth/port, move buff and reduced physical damage is nice but… those totems look very nice. Did they re-vamp the old dorf versions? If not they were very bland IMO.

I like the updated models and neat tatoos/hair style effect of the dark iron dwarves myself but I think it’s really just a matter of preference. I dont think either gives any big advantage.

I think Dark Irons are better all around unless you’re a regular barber visitor and like variety. If you tend to just pick one barber shop look and stick with it forever, and you found a good combo for Dark Iron, that’s the choice.

I’ve made a nice Wildhammer theme
Also I failed to come up with a lore explanation for Dark Iron Restoration Shaman

I have one of each and as a Bronzebeard, I’m envious of the mole machine racial for the Dark Irons. It’s such a nifty tool for traveling around faster. Not a dealbreaker though. The flame aesthetic is fun and the hairstyles feel more modern. The horde loves the Dark Iron. I mean, I see plenty of comments that if they had to play a filthy alliance race, it’d be a Dark Iron hands down.

I prefer my Bronzebeard because they’re classic. They have their own home city hub. (Does anyone even go back to Shadowforge? Genuinely curious.) I feel the flame aesthetic may be somewhat limiting with transmogs. (I have been proven wrong though, I will concede that.)

Wildhammers look like a lot of fun. They rule the skies with the gryphons. They have a bond with each other so if that’s something fun you’d love to roleplay, absolutely go for a Wildhammer.

Your Dark Iron could be one of the rare Dark Irons that was blessed with the gift of healing. that could be your lore

I’ve been stuck on this for some time myself. Right now I’m dark iron, but I might make the switch over to dwarf. As for as advantages, dps-wise normal dwarf is the way to go - they’re pretty much always going to be at least slightly ahead on the charts over dark iron (if you care about that). It’s just too difficult to reliably take advantage of the dark iron dwarf ability during PvE content.

Shadowforge City, unfortunately, is absolutely empty all the time - even on RP servers. Not only that, but the NPCs there continue to talk like they’re still under the reign of Ragnaros, which doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. This doesn’t give me much hope that Blizzard will do much with Dark Iron lore in the future, even though Moira’s kid is supposed to one day rule the dwarves.

Mogs and stuff: some look cooler on Dark Iron, some look cooler on normal Dwarves. Kinda depends what you’re going for. You see Dark Iron Shaman in red and black mogs all the time, and for good reason. It’s a tried-and-true style that just works. But there are some sexy feral shaman styles that work so well with normal dwarves that just look kinda out of place on Dark Irons. So it’s whatever you’re going for, really.

One thing, though, is the lore of Dark Iron Dwarves and Shamans. Dark Iron Dwarves were all, like, enslaved by Ragnaros and the elementals, so they’re supposed to be slavemasters now to their elementals whenever they summon them - whereas normal dwarves are supposed to respect the elementals. Also, there’s, like, no lore supporting Dark Iron Dwarves and any affinity for Wind/Water. (So it’s traditionally out of place, but there’s nothing wrong with breaking tradition, no?)

Hopefully some of this will help you organize your thoughts. Chances are, though, if you haven’t been able to get into the Dark Iron, then rolling a shaman one won’t get you into it now. But who knows. Good luck!
