Imagine how DIRTY the storyline coulda been if Garrosh Hellscream had recruited Dark Iron Dwarves.
I’m just thinking about how we’re getting Earthen Dwarves soon… and makes me think of how Dark Iron Dwarves would have fit in with us so much more.
Similarily, imagine if after Legion, Sylvanas recruited Man’ari Draenei into the Horde… we kinda had a basis for it considering Silvermoon took back the Blood Elves that fought for Kael’thas & Kil’jaeden.
Forgetting Moira has a reign on the Dark Irons and Garrosh already chose to recruit the Blackrock clan during the destruction of Theramore. (Also the Grimtotem mercenaries too but it wasn’t brought up again)
A little overlooked but the Shattered Hand clan does have a Dark Iron spy.
Funny enough, it should’ve been the void elves as they had vowed to protect Silvermoon. Similarly, it was out of character for Tyrande to reject the Nightborne since she welcomed the Highborne of Feralas.
I think Dark Iron going Horde in an alternate timeline would require a butt ton of altered writing for Moira and her child.
This could also show the darker elements of the Alliance and it’s characters which push other groups of people towards the Horde but things didn’t exactly go that way.
The Dark Irons were already on the road to uniting with the Bronzebeards and Wildhammers by the time Garrosh became warchief, and someone as paranoid as him would never reach out to a race with a history like the Dark Irons.
Sylvanas would be one of the last people to offer the man’ari a place in the Horde, and after eons of fighting, they, in turn, would recognize her intentions and turn down her offer to use them as weapons of war again, compared to someone like Velen who wanted the draenei to reconcile with their kin.
That’s the biggest thing. Since Blizzard started WoW off giving the Horde what basically were “Edgy” Alliance races with the Forsaken and Blood Elves, now Horde players think they should have every single race that might be a tiny bit different.
For what it’s worth if we got them on Horde side at least they’d be safe and not open to being ruined or tainted like with what happened with Void Elves, they started out cool with big potential and ended up being nothing more than much worse versions of Blood Elves with really bad hair.
I think all allied races should have been faction neutral. If we’re going to go down this whole “common enemy” theme in WoW, it just makes more sense to let individuals from those races choose whatever political affiliation they want. If it works for pandas and dracthyr, it works for basically everything else.
Outside of the normal draenei, The Horde has more reason to hate the man’ari eredar than anyone in the universe.
The Legion, lead by Kil’jeaden was directly responsible for the downfall of orcish society and the total obliteration of traditional orcish culture and of dreanor itself.
They were indirectly responsible for the downfall of High Elven society, the destruction of the sunwell and the fall of Lordaeron through their catspaw The Scourge.
Unlike Velen, The Horde isn’t forgiving to the point of insanity. Manari eredar shouldn’t be playable at all, but Velen giving them a shot at redemption is at least somewhat in character for him.
p.s. Lightforged should have been neutral. They would have no real history with either side. Their knowledge of what happened on dreanor would be largely academic and any race on Azeroth should be viewed as potential candidates for Lightforging.
This could have worked in Cata, I didn’t particularly like Moira and wanted to toss her into Ironforge lava for her part in Sky’ree’s death. But that window has long closed and Moira has proven to be more of asset rather then a detriment to the Alliance.
Similarly, there are plenty more interesting stories to tell with the Man’ari now that they are forced to integrate into draenei society then if they were simply a Horde race.
For sure. I agree that it doesn’t make sense for the whole of the faction, but for gameplay reasons, you could have defectors that don’t really agree with the whole.
Man’ari provide the draenei with a narrative hook going forward, which is important for a race that had conuded their story with the fall of the legion.
