Dark Heart Questline: Lore of K'aresh

WARNING: Spoilers of new questline will be discussed.

Turn back now should you desire to experience them first-hand.

So as we heard the Ethereal named ‘Locus-Walker’ state towards Alleria & ourselves at the end of the questline:

  • Locus-Walker: "The radiant visions you spoke of are the very same my people had … Before our world was consumed by the Void Lord Dimensius!!"

This quote made me consider something …

Given we’re all fairly certain the :sparkles: ‘radiant songs / visions / voice’ :sparkles: being heard across Azeroth is the world soul crying out to us — Does that mean the Ethereals home world of K’aresh was ALSO a world soul? Given they heard the same thing …

Oddly enough, if so – It raises a few more questions & considerations …

  • Given Dimensius was able to hold a tether on our reality moreso than the rest of his kind, one would guess it gained enough power to truly pass into our realm & attain a foothold (one could speculate this was merely “stage one” of the void-lord’s goals).

Although it begs the question with K’aresh …

Why wasn’t the world soul simply empowered & transformed by the void?

  • Was K’aresh too weak of a world soul & titan to have the desired goals of the void-lords made reality?
  • Or was perhaps K’aresh too early in its development as a titan for the void-lords ambitions to come into fruition?
  • Or perhaps the volatile barrier spell that resulted towards transforming the Ethereals into what they are today — Had also foiled the transformation or utilisation of the said-world soul :point_right: Ultimately & unintentionally saving it from the Void-Lord’s transformation, hunger and wrath …

And also …

Does K’aresh still stand?

Keep in mind, as the void-lord tightened its grip on their world — One of the mortal races hastily attempted to construct magical barriers around its cities and although the dark energies were blocked, the unimpeded flood of arcane energy tore away the mortals’ corporeal shells and infused their souls with enough energy to transform them into the ethereals they are today.

… One could speculate that even with the consumption of their world – That the city from K’aresh shielded still stands (akin to Kandor from Krypton in DC comics, bottled by Brainiac).

This is further enforced by an Ethereal that we once confronted:

  • The Grand Collector yells: “They called me down from K’aresh to deal with this band of misfits?”

Implying K’aresh — or at the very least a piece of it, may still stand :scream:

 SO!:smirk:

  • Do you think K’aresh had a world soul?
  • Believe we’ll be eventually seeing the world, or at least a remnant of it? :open_mouth:
  • Should the city or large portion of the world happen to be “bottled” in a sense via void-proofed arcane barrier — Would you be interested in seeing it seeded upon Azeroth as a new continent or zone to explore? :star_struck:
  • If a piece of the world was spared & the void-lords plans weren’t made into completion … Would you be interested in seeing a new character via a diminished world-soul, walking amongst us hidden as a humanoid immortal Ethereal being? :man_detective:

Post your speculations, answers and extended thoughts bellow!

I cannot even progress in that quest part of it is flooded with people trying to tag one mob. I want to read what is going on but people are spamming through it.

Do what I did & invite a few people from your faction that are around.
:diamonds: So that way if anyone from your group tags it — You all get the tag-credit, and can proceed further.

  • I’d argue the most interesting lore-bits from the questline is from the little bit of dialog in Stormpeaks, and then at the end when back @ Telogrus Rift.

The quote I mentioned in the thread, is said through an in-game cinematic.

The in-game cinematic & quote spoken of …

If you’re impatient for the questline at this stage, but want to see the in-game cinematic I’m speaking of in this thread, you can find the video at →

 I rather like Locus-Walker, he seems like a complex character with a cool back-story – So I’m keen to see more of him to come (Preferably not as a throw-away villain).

The Burning Legion spanned the cosmos to destroy world souls (emphasis on the multiple) to keep The Void from corrupting one.

The Void Lord Dimensius tore his way into our realm and targeted K’aresh. This all but confirms it has a world soul. As for why there isn’t a Void Titan running around the universe one-shotting pantheons, perhaps the K’aresh world soul is still ‘incubating’ like Azeroth is.

BTW, I’m calling it now. In 3 expansions or less, we’ll be teaming up with what’s left of the Burning Legion to drive out the Void from our plane of existence.

Yeah, I mentioned the incubating ordeal as a possibility in the thread too

However my personal favourite theory would be the ‘Bottled city’ one →

… One could speculate that even with the consumption of their world – That the city from K’aresh shielded still stands (akin to Kandor from Krypton in DC comics, bottled by Brainiac).

Where world soul managed to escape via the barriered part of the world shielded from the void threat, which resulted the transformation of the Ethereals — To which would also justify:

  • Why it wasn’t transformed into a void-titan.
  • And explain why Dimensius wasn’t more powerful — Having being only able to have temporarily taste the world’s power … and not even to its full potential.

Honestly it’d be pretty mind-boggling if the leader of the friendly Ethereal faction ‘The Protectorate’ — was in fact the diminished world-soul of K’aresh, walking as an immortal humanoid figure severely weakened - Yet still tremendously powerful.

:star_struck: The possibilities for both the lore and potential for in-game content are enormous!
