Dang arms suck

Out shined in PvP and PvE by fury. Get eatten up by most dps you try to 1v1 too. Can we have ignore pain back and some dps buffs?

Edit: I stand half corrected I was top DPS on every raid boss. But still get torn apart in pvp.

Arms has historically been a bad 1v1 spec. It has incredible burst with the right build and as of tomorrow, sharpen blade will be better than slaughter house. It’s not god tier but I’m willing to bet it out performs fury and people’s expectations on the 3s ladder and ranked solo shuffle.

It does great damage, but has next to no sustain or defensive capability on its own. You absolutely need a healer to prop you up.

I just started to dip my toes into pvp after completing all of the quests for this xpac. And it is painful. I’m guessing it’s because I don’t have any pvp gear on, but I go down like a trash mob.

Your observations are spot on.

That being said… deep breath
(for TLDR, read the bit at the bottom)

Arms has never been self sufficient enough to excel in 1v1. Any damage you take is effectively permanent. Even with ignore pain, that’s always been true.

If you want to see Arms shine, go into a bg and bladestorm a flag carrier down. Leap across the battlefield, sinking your axe into the chest of that pesky healer. Our burst is high and we are unrelenting when we stick to a target.

My best advice is to recognize where arms is weak and where it is strong. Lean into your strengths and avoid unfavorable situations, and you’ll feel stronger for it.

As for PVE. It’s not that arms isn’t putting out the numbers, we can pump. The issue comes with our talents. We have a very uneven scale. The more we invest in AoE the worse our single target is and vice-versa.
For mythic plus, talk to your team and find out what’s needed more, boss damage or pack clearing, Choose accordingly. For raid, just hop specs as needed for the raid fights. Plenty of specs that focus on single target or AoE.

Arms isn’t in the best spot at the moment, but it truly is a worth while spec if you’re willing to put in the time.

Yeah, pretty much. I’m fully geared, and I eat sub-300k HP players. Granted, I can’t ignore undergeared people forever–they will hurt me eventually.

Maybe I just missed what Arms may have been…but as someone who has been loving fury since launch…Arms is blast to switch to in pvp (BGs so far)

How does our surv compare to fury rn

A problem with arms, besides the self sustain, is some of the core abilities/talents are nerfs in pvp. Rend is nerfed along side a lot of our talents in general in pvp. I’ve been having fun as arms and fury, but fury does seem better since it has so much self sustain even after the nerfs.

Arms has always trailed fury in self sustain. Raw self healing output has always been a fury thing. Any damage you take as arms in a fight is effectively permanent without a healer.

That being said, arms has its own niche in mitigation.

Die by the sword, and D stance are core tools. Raw damage reduction. But then you get into pvp talents and you have Duel, disarm, banner. Different ways to mitigate the damage you might take. It’s not as clear cut with fury’s “heal by hitting them” defense, but Arms has a much wider breadth of tools to access.

there’s definitely something wrong with arms in pvp i feel like, even with 2 stacks of overpower and 2 stacks of execute buffing my mortal strike, I sometimes only crit for like 40k, without those modifiers it regularly hits for like 16k and crits for 30k. super weak.

Looks like you’re lacking a lot of Versatility.

That has a huge effect on your ability to deal damage in pvp. Arms definitely isn’t in the best place, but gear plays a huge part.

Your looking at my pve gear. Im in full honor gear as arms.

Gotcha. Yeah that’ll do it XD

What build are you using for pvp?

I went with any and everything single target damage wise.

I’ve been having a lot of fun with a build posted in another thread. It reminds me a lot of my build I used back in shadowlands.

Very chunky, heavily skewed toward meaty Mortal Strike hits.

All credit to @Roninblade from the thread for posting this one. It’s been a good time.

Arms is closer to what it was in BFA (as opposed to SL). Arms was amazing in SL since it’s rando burstiness worked in fights were 2 or 3 hits can kill an enemy. It feels like it sucks in DF because we have to work for these kills again. You can build the spec to drop massive bursts every 1.5 min. Survivability does suck a bit but that’s classic arms. I’m surprised we haven’t seen the return of the “pOcKeT HEaLeRs”.

I agree. I think part of it is in general how hard the abilities hit in pvp. Execution Precision is nerfed in pvp, sharpened blades, shoot even rend is. I apologize I don’t remember off the top of my head what else is nerfed too. It is a shame, in the beta, ARMs felt amazing. BIG big damage. It really reminds me of the bleed dampening build we had to do in BFA. Oh and I really hope Blizz looks at defensive stance. I really think it should have its nerf reverted.

A part of it may also be that just about every other class/spec just hits harder and quicker.

Edit, spear on a 1.5min cd also feels really bad when you compare it to what it was previously. I wish the other capstone reduced the cd by 30 sec.
