Dampening is good for healers

I don’t know why people seem to think that dampening decreases healer skill expression, it’s quite the opposite because healing is very binary. Either you keep your team alive or you don’t and it’s game over. You can see this very easily for yourself by running a Resto Druid, pushing overgrowth+tree at the first burst and then just spamming regrowth. Once dampening gets higher, you have to actually pay attention.

Healing is like a race except that you’re not trying to beat the other people, but rather beat a specific time. Every lap you reset and the time gets shorter until someone loses (that’s dampening). On the first lap, Joe Neckbeard does just as well as Usain Bolt because all you need to do is finish it within the timer. As the timer gets shortened, only the fastest runners will keep getting there.

Or you can look at it the other way, what if there was a healing buff instead? If heals were buffed 100% instead of being damped, there would be virtually no difference between a 2400 healer and a 1600 healer. Druids would just need to keep rejuv and lifebloom rolling. Paladins and Shamans press Holy Shock and Riptide on cooldown. You’d have to literally keep them from playing the game (CCed) 100-0 on someone.

Yeah, in this high burst damage meta, it’s impossible to nuke someone in 6 seconds.

Yep, let’s make healing feel worse while DPS is satisfying. Aside from the million CC abilities, let’s also make healers less effective as time goes on…

This will make more healers queue

You either win a match or you lose it, it is binary, 50/50.

Dampening is fine but there game doesn’t need to have 10% as soon as the gates open that’s unnecessary

Pretty sure it’s just unary because playing WoW in the first place is losing.

Tell me you know nothing about healing, without telling me you know nothing about healing.

I like how you are just saying “lolno” without any explanation or reasoning.

Look at it another way, say you have two identical healers but one is and 80% healer and the other is nearly perfect at 100%. However, you only need to be a 70% healer to keep someone alive through DPS cooldowns. This means that barring some one shot silliness, both healers are effectively equal. Dampening allows for the better healer to actually show they are better.

Seriously, think of every competitive sport. As you go up in leagues, the courts/fields get bigger. The weights you are throwing get heavier. The routines you have to do get more complicated and are judged more harshly. This is not a new or complicated idea. The better you are, the more you want the game to be hard so that you can distinguish yourself.

This reduces healers to healbots. But we’re not. We have diverse abilities that interact with our toolkit differently, and dampening hurts some classes more than others.

However, let’s pretend dampening affected everyone equally and assume something untrue. Even then, this is untenable comparison. For instance, we are supposed to be “professionals” going “up in leagues,” but dampening starts at the beginning, regardless of CR/MMR. Dampening PREVIOUSLY started at 5:00, meaning GOOD players who could live that long would deal with it. That made sense. This does not.

This is just getting funny. “Healers have no way to show their skill and just end most games 3-3” “here’s a way for healers to show their skill” “No not like that”. Wanting dampening to wait a full 5 minutes is ludicrous as that makes it so the only games that end before dampening are those where you get a stupid burst and global someone.

The complaints about dampening are just people seeing “reduced healing” and thinking it must make it suck to be a healer. It would be much worse without it for healers with games going forever until somebody made a mistake.
