It might not.
The way the new squish appears to work may allow them to basically utilize a standardized range of level 50-60 stats for an expansion while it’s current, and henceforth have all prior expansions’ content share the same range of level 11-49 stats, with each finishing expansion being knocked down to that level while the newt one assumes its place in the 50-60 stat range.
Admittedly that’s just a hypothetical, and it’s hard to be sure how exactly the squish will manifest once it’s live at this point and how much of what they intend will end up working, but the way it’s being presented seems like a deliberate mechanism for potentially setting a relative cap on stats and DPS calculations going forward and creating a standardized framework for implementing each new expansion without having to repeatedly turn around and squish the entire game’s stats to make room for it.
At the very least what the new squish seems to imply is that everything - loot drops, player/mob HP, player/mob DPS, crafted gear, consumables, everything - from any expansion prior to Shadowlands may all possess basically the same range of stats once it’s been implemented.
So the loot tables of Sunwell Plateau, Icecrown Citadel (or rather, maybe Ruby Sanctum), Dragon Soul, Siege of Orgrimmar, Hellfire Citadel, Antorus and Ny’alotha might all be full of drops with identical stats (albeit their own appearances), which will seem weird to say the least.
I really don’t mind the big numbers.

The whole reason to avoid big numbers is just because it gets silly to try and figure out relatively what your damage feels like at a glance.
Even now if you hit for 100k that should feel impactful, but you see people with a million health and it seems kind of funky. I’d argue it’s not just the raw numbers in BFA that are a problem, but the amount of variance you see.
I mean hell you can see someone with 60k and someone with 900k health in the same battleground at 120.

From an interview with MMO-Champion:
There will not be a stat squish. It’s very important that players feel just as powerful when they log in to play the expansion.
I don’t even really notice them.

Squishes are stupid. Revert all squishes, I want my dps to be expressed in duodecillions.

Are you saying you want the gap between older content and current content to be smaller?
Me either because I turn off floating combat text and I have my UI set to show HP and “power” (mana, rage, energy) as percentages.
Gaining power is the entire point of the game.
Except you can get tank death knights pulling well over a million dps with Twilight Devastation (when they mass death grip enough mobs into a single point, that is).
That is legion level dps.
Lol… as if Blizzard has eve attempted to control power creep.
Ever notice how every new expat starts with quests that equal previous top tier items. They wouldn’t do that if they wanted to control the creep. They would just allow raiders to be OP for 4 levels. Hell… we double item levels in this expansion.
So, this is the latest of straws someone is grasping at?
Popcorn is almost ready, ty for the comedy
This topic always comes up and always will. It will likely go away in Shaddylands but the xpac after that someone is going to make a “I think we need another squish” thread lol
This is an issues, every time it comes up its an issue and to say its not an issue is just flat out misinformation
I enjoy the bigger numbers. Doing 300 dps seems anemic.

Why is it misinformation? Are you saying every single player and news outlet is misinformed? Is Blizzard hiding something from us? Do they have aliens in the basement???
Really, if you want to claim something at least put some effort in what you’re making up.
What? By the end of legion I was doing 2mil dps single target. We’re no where even close to that
Because every squish brings numbers to where they should be BEFORE the next xpack comes out so everything jumps up immediately after. The squish should be numbers so low that at the end of the xpack following the squish it should now be the tiny numbers they were aiming for.
On top of that, every new feature this game has only increase dmg all the time instead of improving gameplay like it should considering what is lacking in the game.
I have a feeling the numbers will crunched down hard with the level squish so to me it’s not that big of a deal. Just ride out the rest of BFA and then numbers will go back to reasonable levels
