Dagran Thaurissan II - a line that I didn't like, and an ill-considered thread title

Heaven? The kid knows people who have walked in the literal afterlife of this world, but he’s still got his heart set on going to heaven.

Then again, Uther hoped there’s a special place in hell for Arthas. Still though, these kinds of anachronisms just bug me.

EDIT: I updated the title. Tahonto made a good point about this coming across as some kind of “Christianity = bad” thing, and that wasn’t the intent. Apologies for that.

EDIT 2: Ok, as many people are making good points to refute this I am realising it’s not as out of place as I initial felt.

Bastion would likely be WoW’s “equivalent” of heaven.

Nevermind that. Why does Dagran look like he drinks frappuccinos and has a gluten allergy?

Whatever cosmic force snatched Tirion’s soul from being rezzed into a DK probably controls WoW “Heaven” to worshipers of the Light.

we don’t talk about that expansion.

“is this heaven?” is a fairly common saying in the english language, so of course it’s going to be used, “is this bastion?” just sounds weird.

besides, the light is HEAVILY inspired by Christianity, wouldn’t surprise me if the light afterlife is canonically called “heaven” in wow.

Like any fantasy setting you have to remember that they’re not actually speaking English anyways, since like any real world language it has been developed by countless real world influences.

So just assume that “heaven” and “hell” are just translations from whatever they’re actually saying for our benefit and don’t worry about it too much.

It is, because in our world heaven is a concept that exists.

evidently it’s a concept that exists on azeroth too.
regardless if it’s real or not.

Same in wow…

Bastion - heaven

The maw - hell

Who do you think the game is for? Seems kind of obvious why writers would pick such obvious words.

Asking a WoW player not to get hung up on a minor detail in some filler dialogue?! :open_mouth:

Omg “Heaven” just means blissful afterlife…

Ffs people, that’s it

Literally bastion, arden, or even mal can be considered heaven depending on the individual

Lol well I always respect the right to hyper-fixate.

As someone who’s studied linguistics and specifically its application in fantasy literature, sometimes you just gotta accept that unless you’re going to read Lord of the Rings entirely in Elvish there’s going to be words that realistically should not exist in the setting.

A great example lol

Why does this dwarven child look like a 40 year old

Or maybe people could use their brains a bit…

If a fantasy character says “heaven” then they essentially are just talking about a warm and happy after life.

No one got hung up about the use of “hell” in warcraft since w3.

I don’t see why heaven is any different.

Yes, that is what I said but significantly ruder. Well done.
