Dagger isn't a one-handed melee weapon?

This character received a nice dagger today that I want to equip, but if I do I can’t use Stormstrike. It gives me an error “Requires One-Handed Melee Weapon”. I thought a dagger was a melee weapon, and it even says “One-Hand” in its description. It lets me use a fist weapon, but not the dagger, no matter which hand I try it in.

Is this really a thing or this this a bug?

Forced into fist weapons, maces, and axes for enh.

Then they need to change their error message, because it doesn’t specify any specific one-handed melee weapons.

On the spec change menu it says what weapons types each spec can use, also listed in general tab of spells.

Daggers use a different speed than other 1h melee weapons. Most 1h these days are 2.6 second swing timers while daggers are 1.8 I believe.

This may be why it’s not usable for many dual wielding abilities.

Then why does it let me equip the dagger, if this spec can’t use it?

Because Blizzard.

No there isn’t a better reason except to prevent you from taking weapons that aren’t good for you.

We all about the clumsy hand-holding these days.

Well anyone can pick up a dagger, they just might not know how to use it well.

You don’t want to use a dagger as Enhance anyway, regardless of it this is a bug or not. You want a nice huge honking slow moving weapon.

By slow moving, I mean I think it is 2.6? Don’t think there is any other one handed mace, axe, or fist weapon speed. Either 2.6 or 3.6. Just don’t remember which it is.

Well then they should make it so you can’t even equip a dagger in Enhancement, instead of their vague error message. But Blizzard are the kings of vague.

Because Shaman as a whole can use it. A dagger can be a stat stick for an Ele Shaman.

I believe it is a throwback to the original coding of Shaman. Back then melee abilities did indeed work with daggers

Prob b/c they don’t have an animation for Stormstrike with Daggers, although it would probably look just like mutilate, but w/e who knows why can’t use it

Back then was a long time ago. They need to fix this for now. They could have it say “You can’t equip a dagger in this spec” which would clarify but still let you know you could use it in other specs.

You can equip any weapon your class can use in any spec. This allows you to get tmogs you loot while using another spec.

Basically if you weren’t able to equip it at all, you wouldn’t be able to use that appearance as resto.

That makes perfect sense. I just would like it to be clear in game, because I was totally confused.

The tooltip for the spell could say “Requires One-Hand Mace, Axe or Fist” when you mouse over, instead of “Requires One-Handed Melee Weapon”.

But thanks to everyone for clearing this up.

The whole weapon type restriction on using abilities are extremely stupid.

Sorry… but if my class can equip them, then my skills shouldn’t be restricted from those weapon types.

I can equip guns and bows as a rogue. It’s leftover coding or w/e you want to call it from when this game was more RPG like and you could be bad and make wrong choices if you wanted to. Or you go back far enough and bows were the only source of stats for that equipment slot for rogue.

Alternately it’s because your class heals, and it’s so you can equip healing daggers.

Regardless of the reason, they need to be more clear in game.

Daggers are their own weapon category.

The restrictions are really asinine.

QFT. I was quite disappointed that I couldn’t use the legendary daggers I farmed for this combat rogue (now outlaw) in timewalking. I have no interest in any other rogue spec and I want to be able to use the same weapons I could use before. All that farming feels wasted now.
