Customisable Ascendance

Do you guys think it’d be cool to customise our ‘Ascendance’ spell’s forms, similar to how druids can customise their shapeshifts or warlocks can customise their pets in the barber shop?

  • Speaking amongst other shaman players, we were all pretty keen on the idea, so I’ve come to the forums to share.

Honestly, I’d love to have the air-ascendent form for elemental-spec as opposed to fire — but given all the other various forms they have in the game (eg. Elementium) the potential seems far greater than just the ones we have … Additionally you could throw in the classic-forms as a token meme-nod to the past too, lol

Some ideas for customisable Ascendance forms:

  • The ones we already have (obviously).
  • Other iterations seen before (Like Elementium, as previously mentioned).
  • Old-School Appearances.

Other potential ideas that could be up for debate:

Gift of the Primal Incarnates

  • Elemental Drakonid forms – Like Eranog & other ‘elemental ascended’ Drakonids.

Secrets of the Primalists

Receiving the gift of greater Elemental forms – Like the models of

  • The Raging Tempest’ (wind) from the dungeon The Nokhud Offensive
  • and the ‘Primal Tsunami’ (Water) from the dungeon Halls of Infusion

Grimoire of Stormsong

  • The elemental form of Aqu’sirr – from the dungeon Shrine of the Storm

Naturally a few of these Ascendence forms could be earned via content, giving shamans a sense of excitement towards striving forward to claim, and so on.

Anyway guys, feel free to share your thoughts and so forth – This is all just hypothetical fun cosmetic stuff.

I just want the old glyph back that let us opt out of transforming into a Twilight Cultist abomination. I don’t want updated versions of Twilight Cultist abomination, I just don’t want to transform into it at all.

I’ll never understand why it was made a shaman spell in the first place, it’s so against the general class fantasy. It’s like if they gave paladins a major cooldown that turned them into a faceless one.

That’s why I suggested the elemental forms.

That being said, the origins of the ascension forms we see with the Twilight Cultists is from being infused with tremendous elemental powers — such that is usually TAKEN, not given.

As of such — It seems that some shaman adventurers have mastered a more co-operative, though temporary, form of ascension by being gifted or more appropriately ‘lent’ such power.

I honestly think all glyphs should be more expensive to make and be permanent unlocks that you can then apply or unapply in the barber shop (or maybe a new shop like “the illusion shop”)

That would make them not such a useless thing for scribes, and make them more flexible as a collectible for people

Personally I’d like some customisations not earned through glyphs but through related content, like the warlocks demons or druid shapeshift forms were. :yum:

But for stuff like the old-school ascendence forms and a few others I wouldn’t mind.
Or even if gylphs were required to ‘unlock’ something looted or to earn later on.

I’d love to customise the form. I think though they should add it as rewards. For example, an ultimate water form is unlocked from hitting elite in PvP or from a AOTC kill.

Some reward is warranted for those achievements but no thank you to Ascendance customization being tied to them.

It shouldn’t be gate kept so that the majority of the player base wouldn’t have access to it.

We don’t need another feels-bad Mage Tower type of thing for people who couldn’t get those skins for whatever the reason may have been.

Lookin at you sparkly cat…

I wouldn’t mind FOMO ascendence rewards, so long as they eventually became available after 2 or 3 expansions.

4 – 7 years is PLENTY of time for people to bask in their own glory.
Such should be done for all FOMO rewards honestly.

So long as they can still be earned there shouldn’t be an issue.

Barbershop as a Central Hub for Customization
Expanding the barbershop functions to include ascendance forms would be cool, in tune with other class customizations, and be more streamlined than the current glyphing situation.
Including ghost wolf forms and hex variations would be cool too.
Mages could see polymorph options there.

I do feel like the way the features are implemented right could have supported more player driven economic activity. Inscription glyphs were psuedo one-time use consumable items, where removing or changing it would require repurchasing the items. I really do think that if you’re running an MMO, then you should support player driven operations to spur on interactions like service provision, gifting, or talking to others.
With how impersonal the modern AH is, how large the communities span across multiple servers, and how the vendors supply the glyphs, it’s arguable that most of the customization options don’t work on any kind of principle that requires any interactions between two players.
Making them craftable recipes isn’t even insurance that the spells or items would remain preserved or evergreen anyway. Inscription definitely got a short stick in that regard.

I think a little bit of modernization and integration in the barbershop would organize these features for the developers as well. The art development and asset management would be under a more expansive set of expandable features.
Yeah, I’m kind of also saying, if it became a more popular feature it could be monetized like other cosmetics, but I’m sure there’s an appetite for golden raptors already. Besides even if the art team have shoulders like greek gods, supporting them a bit for making more cool, more accessible things is certainly better than these features being shuffled away like nuggets during secret finding expeditions.

Honestly, for features upon classes – Personally I’d much rather them to be earned via:

  • Related aesthetic content (eg. Phoenix Boss dropping fire customisation).
  • Secret Locations that are lore-relevant to your class.
  • And Class Quests

Having them as glyphs kind of sucks the fun out of attaining & using it.

… That being said, I also wouldn’t mind if they used glyphs as ‘picklocks’ – of sorts, where they’re used to unlock or bypass magical-security measures on particular secrets or items looted / found; so that they can be used.

I think it would be cool, yeah. But I also don’t care if we have it. They finally updated Ascendance, and then gave us a second model for people who did not like the first, and they did that fast. I pretty happy that they finally listened and don’t really expect or demand more for the moment.

Still, it would be cool. Even cooler if we could get the old glyph back that just gives our characters a energy glow.

Getting the oldschool chain-heal visual with the golden glowy feature would be epic.

I feel like it embodied the shamans spiritual side, but sadly they seemed to have slowly peeled all aspects of spirituality off the class in both lore and in gameplay :pensive:

Shaman are nothing more that just mostly fire, earth, wind and water benders now; with little to no involvement whatsoever with the element of ‘spirit’ or any other spiritual relevance anymore, save except perhaps ghost wolf. lol
