Do you guys actually remember to apply and refresh them during M+ runs? I try to remember to apply them to priority targets, but I’ve gotten so used to not having them that I forget half the time.
I’m pretty on it most of the time. Any trash heals get tongues; tank kiting a pack gets a shadow fury and then I use exhaustion on all the chasing mobs - generally creates enough space for dps to aoe burn.
I do bosses as well, but usually don’t refresh unless it’s tyrannical week. A good place to train the habit is twisting corridors without others depending on you.
Yeah, I try to apply curses on all targets, but end up only applying it to maybe 2-3 mobs since spending a gcd on 5+ mobs doesn’t seem worth it, when we can kill them instead? Maybe I’m wrong? IDK? I do admit that I forget to Exhaustion for the tank though…That’s just me needing to adjust/remember my priorities.
Curses are some what useless. For trash you should just burst. For bosses, it’s not aas that will kill ppl. We have enaugh ramp up that spending time on curses is just bad generally.
The long ramp up is generally why I forget to apply or refresh them. I personally don’t feel the difference whether or not I apply them, but I’m not the healer or tank, so I wouldn’t really know.
The only curse that feels worthwhile using is weakness- and only on raid bosses and big d tyrannical bosses. The rest I just cant see giving up a GCD for.
Yep. Universal caveat, as others mention, is that if it can be nuked relatively risk-free then skip. Coming from ‘nilla it’s hard to not do it when they are available.
Feels like I’m slacking or something.
Exhaustion for sprites on me.
Weakness for Pride.
Tongues in Torghast (for haste buff early on).
That’s about it. They all macro’d to one key.
I use Exhaustion fairly regularly, esp weeks like this (angry spooky ghosts). I put exhaustion on the phoenixes on Sun King at times too. If Shadowfury is on CD and the tank needs to kite in M+ (and we’re a little light on slowing tools) I’ll put Exhaustion on certain mobs, like the Gorgons in HoA.
For Tongues you could get a lot of value from it if you put it on targets and then used optimal (waiting for the cast to be almost completed) interrupts, but even in mostly coordinated groups, people hit interrupts in the first 30-40% of a cast, so Tongues is pretty meh. Only time I use it is on caster mobs in M+ that spam casts, like SoA Castigators, and even then, really only if they’re bolstered or on Fort weeks.
For Weakness, I barely use it. It doesn’t seem great unless you get a very large spread of it, like with Venthyr’s IC. Most mobs don’t seem to have powerful melee attacks, but rather strong abilities that hit tanks that wouldn’t be affected.
Thanks for the replies, folks. I’ve found CoEx fairly good at helping the tank kite… Cause god knows the current Shadow fury is useless unless your group plans around it.
I keep exhaustion on a mouseover macro. Helpful for fights like, say, the first boss in Plaguefall. Between a banish for big slime and exhaustion for the small slimes, you can pretty much handle the first wave all by yourself.
I think people underestimate Curse of Tongues on bosses. Bosses phase through HP totals but they will never interupt their own spell to enter the next phase. This is important for Tyrannical Mistcaller where you can delay interrupting Pattycake until the last moment. Then another slow cast of Guessing game, you can get less phases of it.
Same goes for the 2nd and 4th boss of NW. Slower Necrotic Bolt and Final End gives you more time to dps the skellies and get in interupts. 4th boss longer Ice Shard and Dark Exile gives more time for tank to prepare and dps to stay onboard.
In DoS it is good against Milli because she can shred a tank quickly with Buzzsaw.
Weaknesses is typically for Fortified weeks used against the fatties that tenderize in NW. There are more stuff but I am at work atm.
I use curses on particular trash, not every mob. Usually don’t refresh them unless we absolutely need it.
Bosses, depends on the boss in terms of Tongues or Weakness.
This is a HUGE deal as the cast is already so long so you notice the difference it makes.
I use them all the time. Weakness is super usefull on necrotic weeks. Lets the tank dps longer before they have to kite. It’s also really good on mobs that wreck tanks like the big skellies before the manastorms in DoS or on prides.
