uh…they devote their time and energy and talent into making and maintaining those addons.
If anything bliz needs to stop telling them they cant charge for them so they will WANT to do even more
NO ONE is FORCED to use them, guy.
I would report that to wowhead.
And I’m guessing you’re just looking for someone to butt heads with. Which I will not engage with. <3 Have a good day.
same here. Been using the addons since I found about that curseforge was a thing.
The only addon I ever saw any issue with was Dejastats and it was just pushing political stuff, not trying to sell me anything or do anything malicious.
Did the OP actually think the ADS on the websites was pushing something on him?
Ads are ads, lol. We can just ignore them.
I use their apps update the add-on and alt CRT del to manually shut their app off. Also I have no profile so no email and no personal info for them to sell.
I’ll drop a line to WoWHead now. Thanks for your help. Older player appreciation sent your way!
This thread was made before they offered a standalone addon, and before they reduced the ad count. I don’t have any issue running the standalone.
I use it, it gives me one ad that plays in the background while I do it, and then I close it.
Voila. Ad revenue for the creators, I get my addons updated, and it’s open maybe 2 minutes a week.
Jalanili is the one that provided the link, I just confirmed the main site one wasn’t flagging as a trojan at the base level, but I’m glad you were able to get it.
Do you mind if I ask which wowhead page you were using?
EDIT: Found it. Yea, it’s flagging as trojan in Malware Bytes every so often (20 scans, 2 trojan flags) so it’s likely a false flag. But it also flags as something else with other programs. Weird.
Just use the main site if you need it, that Jala linked above.
How do you ban a third party website?
Against what TOS? Are they misusing the service of some company?
So… they are allowing addon makers to monetize their craft… how horrible?
You can actually download the addons directly, you don’t need to download the manager. And what malwere are they inserting? I’m using curseforge for a while and I haven’t noticed anything odd about it.
Adblock is your friend
Such as? Never seen a paid addon on their site. The paid ones usually have their own websites. The reason they do it is because there are no paywalls on curse.
What addon is required to play well? And if there are any, are they behind a pay wall? All the ones I use are free.
Ok, so we are now calling people names… People who work for free to help you customize your game… Incredible.
curseforge alpha is standalone
Hardly, and I couldn’t care less, you do you.
I’ll take it apart and analyze it tonight and document what I find. I’ll try to publish a brief report here in a few days.
I got Malwarebytes and the curseforge alpha client too and MB hasn’t said a peep.
We figured it out. It was just a specific link on wowhead. I had the same alert on multiple programs.
It’s been reported to wowhead.
Slayaa got the program from the main site and it’s all good now.
