Current(post nerf) Sniper Shot, BG/Blitz/EBG tested

During about 3 and 1/2 hours of play in various BG content I observed SS doing about 200k damage average unbuffed, and after the nerf to its range, and me gaining two more slots worth of mastery today, range is only decreased maybe two yards compared to yesterdays range with less mastery (pre-nerfed). As sad as I was to no longer remove half of someone’s health with just sniper shot, this is probably much better for the game. Happy to hear anybody else’s thoughts on the sniper shot nerf and how it affects your gameplay experience.

Feels like Sniper Shot is where it was intended to be originally. A tool to increase your range for your other shots.

MM is still really strong with just Rapid Fire and Aimed Shot.

I’m loving it. So many hunters have magically disappeared over night. Only see 1 or 2 in games each side instead of the usual 4 to 8. All the rerolls returning to other classes now that sniper isn’t cheesing kills right and left.

The difference is quite noticeable. At least in reg bgs. I rarely do epics.

SS damage and very mild range reductions wasn’t the ”fix" to make me feel playing melee is a good idea. Even if some melee cut down my hunter, I may average 6 kills per death some games as MM, and not die at all in others. The nerfs didn’t make MM bad imo, just less devastating when leaving stealth.

Haven’t played in a bit but we should be up close in the fights so we can toss freeze traps in front of our healer when the warrior charges, the control builds like they do in arena can make you a healer friend which shores up a big weakness in our defensives.

My opinion is MM has too much range and Sniper Shot should be removed for a defensive mechanic

With good positioning MM is unpunishable

40yard should be a hard-cap for everyone, then reduce all ranged to 30yard.

Mastery should be changed to add defensives, PVE would avoid it and it would be decent for PVP.

Reduce cooldown on Trueshot Aura and Aspects
Increase Dodge Chance
Add a bleed

I guess it’s just me that I’d rather have a shotgun than a sniper rifle, at least until the other guy has one.

I don’t know much about marksmanship IRL, but getting better at it means better accuracy not being able to shoot from further out with the same gun. Better handling of the weapon. So that brings me 2 things.

Accuracy = Critical Bleeds, where you can hit an artery.
Handling = Lower cooldowns since you’re not wasting time with the weapon. And added defensives because you’re less focused on the offensive part of the weapon that you mastered.

It shouldn’t be “I can shoot from over there now and my bullets do more damage.”

My horde hunter is BM, alliance MM. I may switch Ulfred to SV, which is what I made him for but when I first played him it didn’t take and I didn’t want to do the pet grind again. I went with a shorter ranged build because I like to fight not shoot people from a distance. Corporal Hicks style combat.

Kinda nice for good or ok hunters to face less hunters as well, we don’t wanna soak up the RP, AS wombo combo either.

I won’t be content until it is no longer able to be fired from camouflage. Rogues should be the only class to open up from stealth.

Just my own thoughts.

Was talking to a streamer friend of mine and he told me SS still hits like a truck, the numbers he gave me are 400k-800k.

400k on average, it happens. I don’t see why unless I was shooting at Tanks and maybe Treezus in Ashran. Those numbers are heavily inflated in Ashran because of the bonus HP. 400k out of 3million HP.

I normally see Sniper Shot hitting for 200k. You should be more scared of Aimed Shot and Rapid Fire.

I 100% agree

Doing considerably high burst from stealth compared to current health pools is doable with any DPS spec in reg BGs if Shroud of Concealment or invisibility potions are used or in Blitz if Invisibility buff is picked up, then you also have every class that can be a nightelf with Shadowmeld and Invisible specs which their are many.

If Invisibility is a chief concern play DH and see everyone.

You guys are gonna love Sentinel MM Hunters.

Deathwish fury warrior coming out of stealth has proven to be quite devastating against the pugs lol.

Why though? I mean opening from stealth isn’t even that core of a rogue mechanic these days since they have so many ways to access openers in combat. Does stealth not thematically fit hunter just as much, if not more so? What about druids? What about mages?
What about blademaster warriors? :frowning:

Correct me if I am wrong, but when I said “opening from stealth”, it is meant to be taken as the class fully opening from stealth after the ability has been fired off.

The things you listed reveal your character as soon as you use an ability or spell. MM hunter camp works differently that allows you to fully use an ability from stealth, which is just so dumb.

Mass Invisibility was coded the same way, but a patch fixed it so you couldn’t truly open from stealth.

Invisibility is different, as soon as I press an ability, I am revealed. Just imagine if I can fully charge up an arcanosphere from invisibility followed by PoM arcane blast or something. People would be up in arms, we’ll, they were when it was possible.

So in conclusion, I don’t believe hunters should have the ability to open up with an ability without revealing them, especially with their 55 yard plus range. Unhealthy, dumb and should not be a thing.

Good analogy. Or gpyro when it was actually threatening.
