Current professions are not "Complicated"

If you want “complicated” professions, try Legion profs. I’m trying to finish off some Legion professions that I didn’t cap. Everyone says Legion was the greatest expansion ever, right? Well, here’s what I’ve spent the last 3 hours doing this morning for legion professions:

  1. I need this recipe to level up.
  2. This recipe requires Quest X
  3. Quest X is part of a chain, where am I in this chain?
  4. Go to Wowhead, and start cutting and pasting macros from the quest I need backwards until I hit a “True” flag.
  5. Find the next quest I need, go look for that NPC
  6. Oh wait! That npc isn’t there until I do some more quests in this zone.
  7. Where am I in this zone campaign?
  8. Start cutting and pasting macros from zone campaign start until I find the “False” flag
  9. Go find that quest giver
  10. Do quest after quest after quest to get the quest for the recipe.
  11. Now run a dungeon where the recipe drops.
  12. Now I need to get level 2 of that recipe
  13. Level 2 of that recipe requires a world quest that shows up once every 3 weeks in this zone for half a day.
  14. Hey the world quest is showing up this morning! Fly to the zone
  15. Crap! A demon invasion started on the way to the zone and the quest is no longer available.
  16. After a month I get level 2 of the recipe. Now I need level 3.
  17. To get level 3 do a bunch of dailies in Dalaran until I can buy level 3.

This is what people want to bring back. Tell me honestly that anyone believes the current system is more complicated than that.

I liked that though. It wasn’t complicated. People conflate the two. When you played through it when it was current, it all kind of flowed. As with other expansions, people would WoWhead stuff. Professions now for the ‘uninitiated’ per se feels convoluted and a lot in your face.

Legion professions wasn’t perfect but it tried to add some flavor to some stuff.

These spec-trees are all spread out, +skill everywhere, KP catch up is uneven, most items don’t really give back anything and you find out you are behind or need so much more to finally craft a max rank piece doesn’t feel good. At least those that like making gold.

I can understand some people’s first reaction to seeing this new profession system.

That I agree with but, ultimately, much crafted gear wasn’t useful after the first few months. Gearing was based on leveling your artifact and doing the self-crafting forge thing in Dalaran and the on the Dranei ship. People just vendor shuffled crafting gear for gold.
