Current DDoS Attack

Players are currently experiencing high latency and disconnections as a result of DDoS attacks towards certain internet service providers. We are currently monitoring this situation and will provide updates as they become available. Please follow @BlizzardCS on Twitter for further updates.

Can you explain why I can log into certain servers, but Thalnos, as an example, results in an instant DC? This doesn’t seem like an ISP issue…

You dont know that.

They are under attack. Just cut them some slack while it’s being worked on.

Attackers can target specific servers. They don’t have to bring down the entire realmlist.

I’m aware.

Did you read the quoted text? Blizzard is not being DDoS’d, they are claiming certain ISP (internet service providers) are being targeted.

Edit: Unless my ISP is having an issue with routes to the host location of Thalnos and the other east coast servers I tried are not located where Thalnos is… But that seems iffy. Lets try a VPN!

Yes, they are being DDoS’d. It literally says in the launcher as of right now:

Players are currently experiencing high latency and disconnections as a result of DDoS attacks towards certain internet service providers.

Blizzard’s login servers are tied to one of these ISP’s. If they get DDoS’d, so does Blizzard.

You are not making any sense, he asked simple question, jeez. Well, servers are probably located in different places with different ISP providers. I really doubt they can directly ddos US servers BECAUSE most botnet is located in 3d world countries and it’s easy to filter it out since they shouldn’t be contacting US servers.

I am making perfect sense.

False. EU servers were untouched yesterday while NA was the only region being targeted. The day before that it was the other way around.

Blizzard’s login servers are not tied to a single ISP - That would be a bad business decision.

Tried two different VPNs, same results. This REALLY doesn’t seem like an ISP issue Blizzard.

Yeah, they probably were ddosing all ISP’s of login servers in US or whatever.

Wait, how trying different VPN’s will affect it? Oh, you tried to log into non-us login servers?

Putting yourself behind a VPN places you on their network leveraging their routes. As an example, if I’m on the east coast in NY using Optimum, but I put myself behind a VPN and point to a node in California, my traffic gets directed to that node in Cali and that node then handles my traffic out to the internet, not my ISP. I doubt this is an ISP issue as Blizzard states unless they’re talking about the major providers.
