The Naxx Proto-drakes were reward from the naxx meta-achievements that got removed in 3.1 back in wotlk and the devs made clear that, even if with enough feedback they could be re-added somehow, they don’t like going back on their “its getting removed” word (disregarding the fact that Plagued one returned later as a BMAH addition lol. Or the fact no other meta-achievement reward was removed).
I decided to check wotlk classic out of boredom, and the drakes are still fully earnable there even though its ICC tier by now. How comes? I’d assume they would follow the same live route and getting booted on 3.1.
Their “word” has been proven time and time again to mean absolutely nothing. There are many examples where blizz said they’d never do X and then later did X. Blizz saying they’d never bring the Nax proto drake back means absolutely nothing and therefore there is absolutely no reason for them not to bring it back. Especially when you realise, as you say, that the Nax proto is merely another glory meta mount which traditionally has remained in the game.
It’s just weird. I checked wotlk classic out of boredom and see the mounts are still rewarded(check achievement tab for raids and the rewards are still listed), even though i assumed it would closely mirror the OG wotlk in this regard, but nope. Apparently it can be earned in one version of the game while overgearing and making it a joke but its not allowed to happen in live. Somehow. For some unexplained reason i can’t understand. Lol.
Then why not add back the naxx drakes to retail if they changed their mind? I mean, you can trivialize it on wotlk classic with ToC/ICC gear as bosses melts and don’t get to do much before death.
My guess is, it’s the existence of those mounts through the black market. Imagine paying millions of gold, just to have it become available for free one shotting each of them. That’s why t3 is so cumbersome and expensive to get even with the recent re-release.
An argument that falls apart when you realize they gave equally expensive BMAH items as twitch drops or trading post rewards lol.
If they wanted to keep it rare, they could just add them to Kel’thuzad loot table as a low drop. Would stay consistent with how its still obtainable in wotlk classic while keeping the rarity somehow.
X-treme Nether Rocket, Wooly White rhino to name a few.
Also, to add to the above: there’s also Tyrael’s charger, which could rival the rarity of the naxx Proto-drakes(and getting one, much less buying it before it was re-added, could be as expensive as trying to buy a spectral tiger) but was brought back as a trading post item.
So too is the BMAH. It’s the players that drive the prices to extreme levels. I could pay next to nothing for a swift zulian of not for the fact that a TSM junkie would gold cap it within minutes.
To be honest, Tyrael’s Charger is the only one in all those I’m annoyed with… oh wait no, the flame horse one too, but only cause that’s the only RAF mount I had.
Still feel like… meh. It’s just 2 mounts, among 800+ very available other mounts. People only want them cause they’re rare.
Not everyone. When a mount is too distinctive or unique, be it by its colors or model, its a big annoyance when its gone with nothing remotely close as a replacement of sorts. It’s why a lot of people wanted Longboi or a replacement with a same model and color. Not many care for the portatil AH or its rarity, there’s just no other green brutosaur available in the game in any capacity or form outside goldcapping it on BMAH.
No, i just don’t like a troll like you, who doesn’t add anything funny nor meaningful to the conversation. Plus, i don’t use the BMAH at all. I just point at the inconsistency and contradictory philosophy behind this rewards.
