I have the Dragon Isles Skinning Profession and I am currently at 100 (+4)/100. BTW, this is on my Rogue, not sure why it shows my Death Knight.
I was running a quest this morning and looted 3 Curious Hide Scraps, none showed up in my bags. Did a little reading to try and figure out what the deal was and it looks like you need to loot 5 during the week to get a single skill point. Is that correct? At the time I could see in my skinning profession that I had a limit of two more the gather this week, so I went out and looted one more Curious Hide Scrap and a Large Sample of Curious Hide and neither shows in my bags.
My profession interface shows that I can’t gather any more this week, but I have not been given a knowledge point or anything.
I haven’t played in over 4 years and maybe I’m not getting it, please help.

First if you click on the avatar at the top right of your browser, you will get a drop down menu. At the bottom of that menu is the change character feature which will allow you to pick which character you use to post.
With the Curious Hide Scraps, they should be in your inventory when you loot them. You then click on them and they give you knowledge points that you can use under the specializations tab.

You can loot 5 curious hide that gives you 1 knowledge point and 5 mettle. Then you can get a large sample of curious hides, that one gives you 3 knowledge points and 15 mettle. You can also buy a razor sharp animal bone from the ah and summon Faunos in the reach for another knowledge point and a chance at a dragon shard.
Try turning off all your addons and doing a /reload to reload the UI.
