Since TBC I have jumped between warlock and priest and starting out in SL I am wanting to finally change it up, thinking of picking up and trying out the role of tanking, with that said.
What are your thoughts on the most fool-proof tank class ? ones that are easy to jump into and learn the role that have the most room for error, I’ve always had an interest in tanking but have never actually taken the plunge.
And yes I understand to play what you find fun, In the end that is what I am aiming to do (I like the idea of all the tank class, less the bear tank), I am just looking for some generalized input and thoughts on this from more experienced people.
Okay so technically ROTATIONALLY guardian is easiest.
You also have low damage and low threat because of it. Rotation is just one part of tanking, with knowing the encounters and holding threat/surviving being a bigger piece.
Play paladin. Easy rotation, easy time with threat, so you can better learn the rest of the role.
I was originally thinking Paladin, and or possibly DK. However the paladin looked a bit more… forgiving with their cooldowns.
I’ve got nothing against druid, MOF I love playing resto druid, and this may be a bit minor but I find the bear druid to be dull in appearance but may put a few hours into guardian just to see how it plays lol
I have spent a good amount of time watching reviews and reading about the dungeons this expansion so I am confident that the base knowledge is there, but. Much with life, hands on experience trumps theory.
I would say Death Knights are fairly easy and forgiving. Just be sure to watch video guides on the bosses before you tank, and remember to watch out for the healer’s mana. They need to drink when the mana is low.
Death Knight, Paladin, and Monk are the most survivable right now. DH is also solid.
Paladin is probably the easiest to pick up.
I haven’t healed any prot warriors yet, so I’m not sure how healing them goes.
Druid is in a terrible place, I wouldn’t choose that right now. Druid was a monster in BFA, but now it’s a pile of crap.
Oh I don’t doubt that most of them are easy to say the least, the game as a whole has been dumbed down fairly significantly, move when your told to move, attack when your told to attack and just repeat the rotation till its dead or your dead.
But BrM has always kind of, put me off the whole staggering mechanic is confusing at a glance but I am sure with experience its actually rather easy.
lol tanking has got to be one of the funnest things I have never done, I got into this expansion and started leveling my warlock and just kind of… no I don’t want to play this way anymore, standing still. waiting for the cast bars to fill. want to jump into something more engaging
The only thing that really puts me off from DK is the rune management, I like the class aesthetically but have never really got behind their resource again much like the BrM I am sure it just becomes 2nd nature once you jump into it.
I keep forgetting DH even has a tank spec, I rarely encountered them, mind you I only played the first half of legion and skipped out on BFA till about 2 months before SL Pre-patch so I am still getting used to seeing them around as a whole.
Paladin / Druid is probably your best shot for a beginners.
Next Monk / Demon Hunter
Then DK / Warrior.
Warriors aren’t trash, but they’re in a bit of a rougher spot compared to the other tanks right now, and it’s more of a class where you really have to be paying attention more than the other tanks so I definitely would not recommend to a new tank.
Having said that, warrior to me is the most fun because it requires me to be active and pay attention all the time to what I’m doing. Warriors are usually late bloomers as well, they’ll probably receive some buffs. I would expect prot paladin to get a nerf to their dps here relatively soon.
