Cultist Class?

I play shadow priest quite a bit, and have been active during this complex commotion on how Blizz could possibly fix shadow priest. I know that some individuals stress the lore issues with lightforged Draenei having the ability to become shadow priests.

So, I thought maybe they could replace the shadow specialization with some other ranged “light-related” damage spec.

Then, they could possibly introduce a Cultist class (that lightforged would not be able to pick for obvious reasons). I thought it would look a little something like this:

Class concept…?

Cultist - Cultists worship the very harborers of darkness. They wield dangerous, dark magic to manipulate and torment their foes.

Shadow - Use sinister shadow magic and terrifying void magic to drain enemies.

Death - Use deadly death magic to rip the very life from enemies.

Blood - Use belligerent blood magic to control enemies and spread maniacal curses.

Just a little thought, let me know what you guys think! I know that it’s most likely not the best solution out there but sometimes I tend to get a bit creative! <3

I feel that the evil spell-caster archetype is already filled by the Warlock class, which would render the addition of a cultist or necromancer class a bit redundant. That is my two copper on the matter.

I like the idea but out of fear of redundancy and existing balance issues, I can’t get fully behind it. I think radically redoing the glyph system would be a better way to go about this. To make Shadow priest use a light form instead, with the same effects and damage.

A Death and Blood spec kinda exist in Death Knights. While I understand the want for a caster class, cause plz give me necromancer, so much have shifted around between classes and specs from your traditional RPG settings, or even the old RTS’s, that it would feel almost too much of the same.

But how to incorporate Blood and Death aesthetics into existing classes, I think we might be onto something.

i completely 100% love this idea.
i can picture it now a quest reading " Find your god, where ever they might be ". wondering around the world you hear small whispers tempting you to serve this god or that god.
depending on your choice you might receive persecution from members of the light who hunt you down.
this can be depicted as a rare mob that just randomly spawns to ruin your level experience.
if you kill him you can ritually sacrifice their soul to your god. granting another quest to receive a new ability.

The dark powers are pretty nicely split between Priest, Lock and DK. I’m not really sure how this class could exist without mustling in on their turf.

Honestly I think an expansion of the glyph system would solve a lot of this. Necromancer is an often asked for class in this vein but between Unholy, Shadow and Affliction what the hell would they do?

My solution would have glyphs for the Demonology Warlock spec that changed the animations to summon undead instead of demons.

Likewise have a Light colored Shadow spec and Vice Versa for holy. Discipline already has a lot of glyphs like this, a more shadowy penance, a lightwalker instead of a shadow fiend and so on.

Plus you could do interesting stuff with heritage glyphs. Going back to Lock; perhaps Darkspear and Zandalari affliction locks could have a voodo mask appear in place of a darkglare, and a Phoenix instead of a Infernal for Belf destros for that Blood Mage goodness.

What you are suggesting, OP, can already be role played by several classes. DK’s can portray necromancers very easily. In fact any class that can rez could be classed as a necromancer in a pinch. Rp is how you make it.

A shadow priest can rez, so who says they are using the Light to do so? Maybe they are using the power of their Dark God to raise minions! You can use this concept to play as a Cultist.
