Out of all the Old Gods, we know the least of C’thun. We dealt with him almost 20 years ago (maybe 25yrs in lore?), and still no sign of his return.
Old Gods cannot truly die, so he’s still around… but so far Yogg’saron’s return got hinted, not his. N’zoth has plenty of theories going around, and even received new voice lines in DF.
Why is C’thun being left out?
I would love to see him be relevant to the lore again, as well as a long overdue model update.
Or if he will not be re-used, could we see in-game as to why?
I expected there to be a hint to that in BFA, since Sargeras’ sword is extremely close to his prison. Was he damaged? Did he absorb the powers within the blade? Has he been in reach of the Azerite there? We came by the Chamber of Heart so often, yet nobody ever batted an eye at what lies in Ahn’qiraj.
Its kinda weird to me. Bring back da eyeball boi. He did nothing wrong.
I mean, Cho and Gal got a very real monster make-over that needs to be explained if all of that was retconned. It was also why they were jabbering lunatics in Cataclysm.
Tho someone on the writing team in Warlords didn’t get the memo, cause they wrote them as jabbering lunatics in that expansion, too.
I believe they ret-retconned that though. Because in Exploring Northrend, it is said Yogg’saron is still around. This book only got published… last year? Year before that?
Don’t quote me on this but if I recall correctly, C’thun legit died, and his death served as a “wake up call” for the other Old Gods that mortals are a legitimate threat to them
So the part I’m a little mixed up on is, weren’t the old god created by the void lords? And if so, couldn’t the void lords theoretically just create a bunch more and send them back to Azeroth?
That, and i dont know if they patched it, but the cthun idol scaled incredibly well and did an insane amount of damage. Its the only reason I managed to complete Shadow, still after 30 tries or so…
But if an Old God “dies”, wouldn’t it corrupt the land surrounding them, as well as damage Azeroth severely, like it did for Y’shaarj?
I think even considering their imprisonment, it would do a lot of damage. There’s a good reason the titans did not kill them. Mortals only pushed them back into their prisons.
Technically yes, but I doubt that would ever happen. Would be impossible to fight unless we all go super titan lightforged, in a scale more “random bullsh* go!” than the Legion expansion.
The largest critique of Legion was about how overpowered we got in not only gameplay but also lore, just to lose all that power and status and return to scooping up dinosaur poop in Zuldazar.
Even if we were to have a Void Expansion, I don’t think we’ll ever fight more than the 4 remaining Old Gods on Azeroth. What I could see them doing is somehow bringing back Y’shaarj at his full strength (He was the strongest of the Azerothian Old Gods) and have us fight him for the first time.
originally were the old gods one, like initial contact w/ azeroth.
if the writers wanted to really get nutty, they’d probably have two main narratives going, one more behind the scenes related to a den of time thieves, but I’ll stay on point.
I am getting the Old God rehash vibes lately and I see so many different things being advertised everywhere. I personally would not mind seeing C’thun again.
Another thumbnail advertised a zone where druids would be heavily influenced? Not sure if that was legit or not either but it would fit in with C’thun. Maybe they will finally add more races for druids in the patch if that thumbnail was accurate too. Highly doubt it but it would be nice for a change. (Probably would’ve been most opportune for Vulpera druids with all this sand …but BE and VE probably be the more popular pick. Colors could’ve complimented it I guess…) Anyways C’thun and the shifting sands war with Cenarion Circle is how I feel they could establish old connections to the game. If they really want to go the route of reusing some old characters we haven’t seen or stories. Pretty much like OP is talking about.
These are not bad observations and questions by any means. Besides seeing advertisement all over of Old Gods. (I have mentioned the one I wouldn’t mind seeing again out of all of them in DF.) I am pretty certain they know that they could just not build upon old ties and old characters but just create new ones like they have done in the past.I always enjoy new villains, I believe some others do too… Sire Denathrius seem to resonate with some individuals. Even though I wasn’t a big fan of his. Maybe make a Old God/Void Lord type of spin off being like Vecna. That guy I like, even though that was a show. They can do anything there really.
