For the last week, I have been whispered by C’thun. It’s random when it activates, but it is usually triggered after I kill something. Sometimes when killing multiple mobs quickly, it resets the “You…will…die” so many times it comes across as, “Y.yyy.yy.yyou. will… dyou…will… die.” No one on my server seems to be having the same experience. Is this an item I have in my bags? Is this because I didn’t finish a quest? I’m not complaining about this, in fact, it’s gotten me excited about AQ; however, I just would like to know the root cause of why I am the chosen one apparently. The only thing about this I could find on the net was that an addon added a feature for later expansions that would play the C’thun sounds when doing archaeology. I don’t play retail so, that ain’t it man.
I want to know now too.

I hate it when you do AQ 40 and Cthun looks directly at the screen and recites your full name and address. WTF Blizzard?
Or when C’thun texts you at 2am “hey u up?”.
It might be something going wonky with one of your addons. Some addons like WeakAuras and DBM use sound files from the game, one of them just so happens to be the “You will die” quote.
I’m not sure what’s causing it but I’d try disabling addons that use game sound files as alerts and see if it continues.
Yeah, definitely sounds like an addon causing this.
When you figure it out, let us know. I want that addon
There are some creepy kids in elwynn forest that run these C’Thun quotes at specified server times.

I believe it IS Deadly Boss Mods. I only say this because I notice the whispering more-so in raids. I haven’t wanted to turn it off during raid to try it yet, so my plan is to look through all the options and see if something is clicked on. We DID have a problem with the new ThreatMeter2 update and RCLoot Council 2. Because of this, I downloaded an older version of both. I did this after I started hearing the voice though. He always says the same thing. “You…will…die.” I was hoping this was in-game and intended, like the Naxx plague event. If I find something new out, I’ll post it.
Usually he just tells me how his day has been.
After more testing, I believe DBM plays the sound effect when I either use Execute or when I crit in Execution phase. If I’m right, this means a bunch more people should be hearing this too if their dialogue volume is up.
I hear this everyday i play, in city, afk, flying, in combat, raids, it happens so often i am starting to hear it outside of game… i dunno what add-on is doing it, but i love it and don’t want it to stop!

I remember taking the MMPI long ago for a security clearance at work ( Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - a psychological test that assesses personality traits and psychopathology ).
I recall one of the questions, which you were supposed to indicate something along the lines of “it was mostly true, occasionally true, occasionally false, or mostly false,” was the following: I sometimes hear voices when others are not around.
For some reason, I thought of that while reading this thread.
I also recall another question on that test: sometimes demons possess me.
A guy I worked with gave what he later described to us as “amusing” answers to those two questions, plus a few others.
As you might imagine, the people in the company’s security department, mostly retired FBI agents, were less than amused with his answers.
