The closest thing that I can remember is the AOL chat rooms. Man, Iâm old.
Wasb=nt mud roms a thing back then.
How about ICQ, Heck back in the day I ran a BBS, It was called âThe Tardis BBSâ Was orginaly run on Spitfire and then later on used PCboard. If anyone remembers BBSâs
Hi.
I started reading this place in 2009 so after you, but I wanted to congratulate you on your 15 years becoming the person you are today.
I had no idea where Barolas had gone until today. What a mystery!
I still remember my ICQ. Itâs still mine. I donât use it though. Even Trillian doesnât connect to it anymore, mind you Trillian doesnât connect to anything but Trillian these days.
Most of my internet socialising was on MOOs.
Mast? Is that you?
J/K, I know better.
Donât you dare tell me you were the other person in the room with me.
And for old⊠who remembers having to use âgopher?â vs. who has to google this to know what Iâm talking about?
Ah, yeah⊠I had forgotten about ICQ. And my exâs dad ran a BBS until '99 I think?
I remember using mIRC and ICQ when I first got online in 1996. Though I havenât used either in many years. I do remember the BBS and did briefly use it or something like it in 1995.
Heck, I still have my original email account. It was set up through our local internet company in 1996. Earthlink bought out that ISP shortly after and I have been paying them to keep the email ever since. I am sure my husband will be glad if I let that go one day.
Ok, thatâs one that I really donât want to get into. Ah, nostalgia not!
Mindspring.
Netscape Navigator was my go to browser way back in the day.
I remember using Geocities before Yahoo took it over.
In my day, we used this new thing called a telephone.
In my day, our telephone was on a party line. That was always fun. Try to use the phone only to hear someone else snoring on it, cause they took the phone off the hook and fell asleep.
If you count blogs on geocities as a social media platform.
RIP David Soul
When I was in college we had one roommate who had a computer, but we were all too poor to actually have internet (this was back in 1993) so we used the computer lab at the school and it had Mosaic, which was before Netscape. Man those were the days.
Really epic was my first computer a TRS-80 Model 4 with two 5 1/4 disk drives and a 300 baud modem. Used it with compuserve. Oh yes had 128k memory what a beast lol
ICQ# 1890587. Havenât used it in ages, but I still remember it.
My grandparents had a party line. But I can remember only needing to dial five digits to make a local phone call - instead of 555-2368, you could just dial 5-2368. And this was before my time, but the prefix here was GArden 6.
Same. 66152106
I donât think I know my cell phone number half the time, but I know my ICQ number. I was in the habit of memorizing phone numbers of course, so it was natural and now it is stuck in my head.
The anniversary comments also remind me. It was 10 years as a green last April. I still consider myself one of the ânewâ ones.
