Crystalsong Forest

Always been an amazing looking zone, thought it could possibly been a BFA warfront. Hope they do something with it for pre launch of shadowlands and see it without Dal in the sky or something.

I read somewhere that they intended on making it a daily hub in WotLK, but the lag caused by people in Dalaran made that idea not happen. Not sure how true it is though.

that is true but since then they have solved that problem one ptr about a year or so ago was pvp in Dal city to see if ppl could crash the server

It may get used in the Shadowlands prepatch, since there will be another scourge invasion.

It is true.

Especially on the computer I had back then, rendering Dalaran as well as the people that might be there gave me a HUGE hit to performance doing anything in the crystalsong area.

So they never made it a hub.

The underlying problem is what needs to be fixed:

Even with view distances set WAY TO THE BOTTOM, you still “see” and render too far out. It is why when I’m standing in BoreAllUs I get 12 FPS, but if I go INSIDE a building in BoreAllUs I get 35 FPS; This shows the “occlusion” is working, where if you don’t see outside things (like in a room) they are not rendered. So the issue is with too many things being rendered, which are actually too far away outside.

You really notice that in BoreAllUs, even with view distance bottomed out but still viewing the huge city (as well as distant towers.) They’ve never had the setting actually go low enough; I have no need to render stuff that far away.

As far away as Dalaran is, in the air, it should not impact you AT ALL in Crystalsong. But it does, or especially did back then. That is a game engine design problem, since there is no reason to even “load” anything from Dalaran.
