Is there some sort of criteria that must be met in order to participate in the beta or is it literally just a lottery? if it is a lottery system then I find it rather suprising so many streamers got access, if it isnt a lottery system, what sort of criteria needs to be met in order for me to playtest in the beta?
This expansion is my singlemost favorite, and I missed out on the classic beta, but i really held out hope that id be able to participate in the TBC beta, and even paid for the 6mo subscription out of anticipation of TBC release.
The core reason behind my asking is that I would like to know if I should keep logging on every day to check and see or if I might as well just save myself the disappointment and set a reminder for a few months when actual release or the pre-patch drops. Ive already done naxx 15/15, ive got 6 characters to 60, and a 7th to 47, I put in test requests for streamers that interact with chat, but its all more of a buzz-kill than anything else.
imba “why dont you like classic”, I did enjoy classic, or i wouldnt have done what i have so far in it, but it has its limitations, and im not a fan of raid logging my mains just to farm for consumes to run the only content anyone cares about anymore week in and week out.
Maybe im just being a sore loser about this, but after i got a fake email about beta, and all the excitement that came from it, im just chomping at the bit for an opportunity to make my all time favorite version of the game, the best it can be, but it feels like i dont stand a chance because i dont run a youtube channel, stream, or edit articles for gaming websites. It almost feels less like a beta and more like a content creator early release for advertisement.
The streamers got it because it builds hype for everybody who watches it. Not to mention free advertising.
Supposedly some regular Joe’s got it, but I don’t think anyone has any idea how Blizz actually distributes the Beta access.
It’s still possible to get a beta invite. Lord knows if they don’t get enough testing done than most players will abuse whatever bugs they can find that slipped through beta
supposedly they will give out beta invites specifically to streamers (of course, see slands beta, bfa beta, classic beta), and then the next invites go to longterm players which makes no sense…because tons of my guild + myself + real life buds have played this game since classic…tbc…wrath etc. but none of us ever get it. If you read forums even people who were subscribed/played since like original wow beta don’t get it. Meanwhile random LFR raiders who quit the game or dont even play it claim to have beta…its really strange…
yeah tbh i think its kinda dumb that even streamers who specifically stated they would not participate in TBC, or others who only played Classic till p2 and then quit to go back to retail, got invited, but everyone else is left in the dark… like if i dont stand a chance at getting it, fine, but atleast let me know… it hurts my feels, id write an essay on my passion for TBC if it meant id get a chance to playtest it, heck, id even take the 2 hour drive up to irvine to hand it in if i had to.
Content creators get invited first which makes sense, I don’t know for classic but for regular expansions the next few waves of invites prio players with high end achievements and after that it’s just lottery. I used to get early invites all the time when I was in cutting edge guilds.
I got an invite Friday as did 3 of my guildies. I have a friend with another guild and he mentioned 5 of his guildies got it.
Every person I know who to got an invite has 2+ accounts. On the other hand, this may have just increased the chances.
There is a HIGH amount of scarab lords and rank 14s on the Beta right now. While I think there will be a ton of rank 14s anyway these two things do indicate a higher than normal /played time. So it may have to do with /played. I also see that certain high-performing guilds also got beta invites for their whole guild. That makes sense as they want someone to test raids.
I mean it could be random but this is what I’m seeing.
Other than the initial “Opt In” that you need to do to even be able to have a chance to get an invite I assume that it’s a lottery for regular players and more targeted towards the people who stream. Which is fine since streamers make more hype for it, though maybe I’m only saying that cause i got into the beta.
I’m going to be honest, the TBC beta isn’t anything special. No addons so i don’t know where to go because most things in quest text are vague at best (You never know how much you rely on addons until they’re gone.)
If you play with a custom UI like me you’ll have issues getting used to it
Only being able to get to level 64 (for now i assume) is annoying mainly because i want to use my new spells.
100% keep checking if you get invited, I assume that they’ll invite more people as time goes on. I think i was invited in the second wave of invites and if they’re planning on raising the level cap you can bet that more waves of invites will happen.
I can relate, the only thing i do on my mage is fishing and PvP and i don’t PvP that much other than that i just raid on it.
Some media creators got a beta. Some are still waiting.
Some addon creators got a beta. Some are still waiting.
Some normies got a beta. Some are still waiting.
It is what it is.
Just check your inbox or restart the launcher from time to time.
You probably just got unlucky but it’s definitely not completely random. Like half the beta are scarab lords and people with Atiesh and a large percentage of my raiding guilds got in… but not all.
I definitely understand the excitement. However, keep in mind that beta tests are frequently buggy as hell. So much to where you might not enjoy it much. And when it’s over, your progress is lost.
I opted in for the beta. I won’t be too upset if I don’t get in.
Me and a lot of guildies and friends got on recently. We’re all decked out naxx rankers and basically everyone on beta is in full bis classic gear, r14, scarab lords etc.
